The Regular Season in CIBACOPA just ended. Hermosillo is No.1 with 34-4 record. Seven more teams advanced to Playoff Quarterfinals, which start tomorrow. The format is best-of-seven.

The game was mostly controlled by Mineros de Cananea. Ostioneros de Guaymas managed to win second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mineros de Cananea dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ostioneros de Guaymas' 38. Naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) scored 21 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Five Mineros de Cananea players scored in double figures. point guard Hector Nungaray (178-78) responded with 23 points and 5 assists and power forward Jose Sanchez (-80) scored 13 points.

Guasave - Los Mochis 85-110
The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 110-85. Pioneros Los Mochis looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Frayles de Guasave's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Devon Pearson (198-84, college: SMU) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 assists. Funn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Pioneros Los Mochis players scored in double figures. American-Libyan center Hiram Fuller (206-81, college: Fresno St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts.

The game without a history. Tijuana Zonkeys led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 40. Tijuana Zonkeys forced 25 Caballeros de Culiacan turnovers and outrebounded them 45-24 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Caballeros de Culiacan's players. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach Luis Lopez felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. CIBACOPA top team - Rayos de Hermosillo (34-4) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat seventh ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (17-21) 91-77. The game was mostly controlled by Rayos de Hermosillo. Fuerza Guinda Nogales was better in second period 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rayos de Hermosillo forced 21 Fuerza Guinda Nogales turnovers. Strangely Fuerza Guinda Nogales outrebounded Rayos de Hermosillo 34-20 including 21 on the defensive glass. American forward Brian Hamilton (198-F-82, college: La-Lafayette) notched 25 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Emmanuel Little (196-85, college: N.Dakota) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Little is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach Dan Tacheny allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by international forward Michael Strobbe (201-85) did not help to save the game for Fuerza Guinda Nogales. American swingman O'Louis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion) added 25 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Rayos de Hermosillo have an impressive 21-game winning streak.
