Quarterfinals, Game 5: Culiacan - Hermosillo 92-106 (1-4)
Game Five of the CIBACOPA Quarterfinals between Culiacan and Hermosillo was played last night. Visitors registered 92-106 victory closing the series with almost perfect 4-1. It means that Hermosillo advanced to the Semifinals, while the season is over for Culiacan. The game was mostly controlled by Rayos de Hermosillo. Caballeros de Culiacan managed to win second period 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rayos de Hermosillo made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. The best player for the winners was point guard Steve Monreal (180-PG-86, college: CS Monterey) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Patrick Sanders (198-F-85, college: Cal-Irvine) chipped in 25 points. American forward Rob Robinson (203-F-87, agency: SDJ Sports, college: Robert Morris) produced 31 points and 9 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Rene Rougeau (198-G/F-86, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: UNLV) added 18 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hermosillo was the regular season champion in CIBACOPA. They registered 34 wins and only 4 defeats. In the Semis, Hermosillo will meet Tijuana. It will be another best-of-seven series and first game is scheduled for Friday. Hermosilo will have a home court advantage in the series.

North claimed an exciting victory over South in the 2013 CIBACOP All-Star Game. The event was held at the Manuel Lira Garcia Gym in Ciudad Obregon. Louis McCullough stepped up with impressive 34 points and 8 rebounds to pace the winners.

He prevailed against Luis Ramirez in the Final round. Toombs earned the Slam Dunk Contest crown. He overcame Marcus Morrison in the Final.

He had the game-high 24 points adding nine rebounds and five assists for Cananea in his team's victory, helping them to beat Navolato (#5, 11-13) 95-82. Cananea maintains the 6th position in Mexican league. Cananea is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 10-14 record. In the team's last game Rougeau had a remarkable 53.3% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Cananea, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Rene Rougeau averages this season 19.8ppg and 7.8rpg.
Second best performed player last round was Kenny Jones (198-PF-84, agency: Dream Team Management) of Obregon. He is American forward in his first season at Obregon. In the last game Jones recorded impressive double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Obregon lost that game 84-92 to the higher-ranked Tijuana (#3, 12-10). Obregon is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-14 record. Jones is one of the most experienced players at Obregon and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.7ppg (#2). He also registered 8.6 boards per game.
Third place about best performers goes to forward Emmanuel Little (196-F-85) of league's leader Hermosillo. Little showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Little's great performance Hermosillo lost 76-78 to #4 ranked Nogales. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Hermosillo needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 19 victories and 5 lost games. Little has a very solid season. In 24 games in Mexico he scored 12.1ppg. He also has 5.8rpg, 3.1apg and FGP: 59.0%. Little attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (18-6) beat at home bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (7-15) 95-83 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Ostioneros de Guaymas. Pioneros Los Mochis managed to win fourth quarter 33-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ostioneros de Guaymas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Pioneros Los Mochis' players. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and the former international swingman Miguel Ayala (198-82, college: UTEP) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
