Quarterfinals, Game 5: Culiacan - Hermosillo 92-106 (1-4)

Game Five of the CIBACOPA Quarterfinals between Culiacan and Hermosillo was played last night. Visitors registered 92-106 victory closing the series with almost perfect 4-1. It means that Hermosillo advanced to the Semifinals, while the season is over for Culiacan.
The game was mostly controlled by Rayos de Hermosillo. Caballeros de Culiacan managed to win second period 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rayos de Hermosillo made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. The best player for the winners was point guard Steve Monreal (180-PG-86, college: CS Monterey) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Patrick Sanders (198-F-85, college: Cal-Irvine) chipped in 25 points. American forward Rob Robinson (203-F-87, agency: SDJ Sports, college: Robert Morris) produced 31 points and 9 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Rene Rougeau (198-G/F-86, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: UNLV) added 18 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures.
Hermosillo was the regular season champion in CIBACOPA. They registered 34 wins and only 4 defeats. In the Semis, Hermosillo will meet Tijuana. It will be another best-of-seven series and first game is scheduled for Friday. Hermosilo will have a home court advantage in the series.

North South 117:112 North claimed an exciting victory over South in the 2013 CIBACOP All-Star Game. The event was held at the Manuel Lira Garcia Gym in Ciudad Obregon. Louis McCullough stepped up with impressive 34 points and 8 rebounds to pace the winners. It was an impressive showcase from both teams. North were just better at the end stealing the victory. 26-year old swingman Rene Rougeau (198-G/F-86, agency: ProSportsCareers) had an amazing evening in the last round for Cananea and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26.
He had the game-high 24 points adding nine rebounds and five assists for Cananea in his team's victory, helping them to beat Navolato (#5, 11-13) 95-8

CIBACOPA Round 26: Fuerza Guinda Nogales defeat leader Rayos de Hermosillo - May 16, 2013

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (19-5) on the court of fifth ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by Fuerza Guinda Nogales 78-76. It ended at the same time the 15-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 23-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game.
