Experienced Panamanian Antonio Garcia (203-F/C-76) had a great game in the last round for Panteras and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com LNBP Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 36-year old power forward had a double-double of 20 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team edged out Abejas (#8, 10-9) 93-91. Panteras maintains the 5th position in Mexican LNBP. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Panteras will need more victories to improve their 12-7 record. Garcia turned to be Panteras' top player in his first season with the team. Kentucky Wesleyan College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Garcia leads league in rebounds with 11.0rpg. Garcia is in league's top in and averages solid 69.0% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old American forward Jerome Habel (208-F-85) of Barreteros. Habel impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Barreteros lost that game 78-87 to the lower-ranked Lechugueros (#12, 6-13). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Barreteros dropped in the standings to 9th position. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Habel is a newcomer at Barreteros and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Ike Ofoegbu (205-F-85, agency: Paris Global Sports) of second-ranked Toros. Ofoegbu scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Toros, leading his team to a 106-78 easy win against the lower-ranked Gansos (#14, 3-17). Toros is closer and closer to the top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 17-2 record is not that bad... Ofoegbu has a very solid season. In 17 games in Mexico he scored 16.5ppg. He also has 4.7rpg and FGP: 64.8%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Myron Allen (182-PG-79) of Corr.Victoria - 24 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Donald Little (211-C-78) of Huracanes - 22 points and 3 rebounds
6. John Ruffus (207-F/C-81) of Gigantes - 31 points and 4 rebounds
7. Shannon Shorter (193-G-89) of Gansos - 34 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Eugene Phelps (198-F) of Abejas - 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Carl Elliott (193-G-83) of Soles - 23 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Ricardo Melendez (179-PG-83) of Panteras - 30 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Sosa Carrion's 32-point game gives him LNBP Player of the Week award - 3 days ago
27-year old guard Isaac Sosa Carrion (190-G-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for Panteras and receives a Latinbasket.com LNBP Player of the Week award for round 17. He had the game-high 32 points adding three rebounds and six assists for Panteras in his team's victory, helping them to beat Libertadores (#11, 4-11) 102-87. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Panteras maintains the 9th position in Mexican LNBP....   [read more]

LNBP Round 17: Fuerza Regia keeps a leadership position - 4 days ago
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fuerza Regia as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Fuerza Regia defeated 9th ranked Toros in Monterrey 82-78. American forward Andy Panko (203-77, college: Lebanon Valley, agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field).
