American forward Devon Pearson (198-F-84) put on an amazing game in the last round for Los Mochis, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 27. The 28-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat Navolato (#6, 11-14) 84-72. Los Mochis maintains the 9th position in Mexican CIBACOPA. Los Mochis is bottom ranked team in the standings. They need more victories to leave last spot and improve bad 8-15 record. In the team's last game Pearson had a remarkable 64.3% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Los Mochis, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Devon Pearson averages this season 19.7ppg and 9.1rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old American Marcus Elliott (191-G-84) of Navolato. Elliott had a very good evening with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Bad luck as Navolato lost that game 72-84 to the lower-ranked Los Mochis (#9, 8-15). This loss caused Navolato to drop to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 11-14 record. Elliott is one of the most experienced players at Navolato and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Kenny Jones (198-PF-84, agency: Dream Team Management) of Obregon (#7). Jones got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds . Despite Jones' great performance Obregon lost 93-112 to the higher-ranked Hermosillo (#1, 20-5). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Obregon not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 15 games, recording just eight victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Jones could try to bring Obregon's a little bit higher in the standings. Jones has individually a great season in Mexico. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 25.0ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 8.4rpg (3rd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Bernard Toombs (208-C-87) of Navolato - 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Steve Monreal (180-PG-86) of Hermosillo - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists 6. Emmanuel Little (196-F-85) of Hermosillo - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Rene Rougeau (198-G/F-86) of Cananea - 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Gabriel Giron (190-G-88) of Cananea - 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Tyrone McNeal (213-C) of Los Mochis - 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Elvis Medina (183-PG-84) of Tijuana - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
