American Jerome Habel (208-F-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for Barreteros and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com LNBP Player of the Week award for round 30.
The 27-year old forward had a double-double of 26 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat Gansos (#15, 5-26) 108-95. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Barreteros maintains the 10th position in Mexican LNBP. Barreteros is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-17 record. Habel turned to be Barreteros' top player in his first season with the team. San Diego State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Habel is in league's top in points (8th best: 20.3ppg), rebounds (9th best: 8.1rpg) and averages solid 1.7bpg and 63.0% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old American forward Keith Gayden (202-F-83) of Guerreros. Gayden impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Guerreros lost that game 104-117 to the higher-ranked Panteras (#5, 22-8). Guerreros is still in a red zone at 13th spot in the standings. 22 lost games are too many comparing to just eight victories Guerreros managed to get this year. Gayden is a newcomer at Guerreros and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Marcus Morrison (198-G/F-84) of Huracanes (#8). Morrison got into 30-points club by scoring 40 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds . Despite Morrison's great performance Huracanes lost 86-88 to the higher-ranked Soles (#2, 25-5). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Huracanes needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 16 victories and 13 lost games. Morrison has a great season in Mexico. After 29 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.7ppg (6th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jason Horton (188-G-86) of Barreteros - 27 points and 11 assists
5. Rene Rougeau (198-G/F-86) of Toros - 22 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists
6. Shannon Shorter (193-G-89) of Gansos - 30 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. McHugh Mattis (198-F-84) of Abejas - 16 points and 12 rebounds
8. Eugene Phelps (198-F) of Abejas - 27 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Lorenzo Mata (205-C-86) of Halc.Xalapa - 8 points, 19 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Ricardo Melendez (179-PG-83) of Panteras - 28 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Melquan Bolding (190-G-88, college: Fair Dickinson) former player of Pioneros de Los Mochis (Mexico-CIBACOPA) in an old interview: Why you decided to be a pro player. The reason I decided to become a pro was, I've played all my life and all the hard work and dedication. It's a blessing to be able to get paid to play now. There are many players without a job fighting for the same spots, how hard is to wait for your ideal offer and not take the first that comes up considering that the ne...   [read more]
