We bring you last week's top performances from Mexicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Gustavo Ayon

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Gustavo Ayon (209-85, college: San Jose St., currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Orlando Magic (12-20) to beat the Washington Wizards (4-26). Ayon recorded 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 35 minutes on the court. The Orlando Magic lost 97-105 on the road to the Wizards. It was Magic's seventh consecutive loss in a row. It's Ayon's first season with the team. This year he averages: 3.7ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 52.4% and FT: 57.6% in the 29 games he played so far. Ayon is currently a member of the Mexican senior national team.

Romel Beck

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, agency: Interperformances, college: UNLV, currently plays in Israel), who plays in the Israeli Winner League. He was not able to help Bnei Hasharon (4-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Beck's very good performance Bnei Hasharon was crushed 113-85 in Tel-Aviv by the leading Maccabi T-A. He was the top scorer with 32 points. Beck is currently first on the list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Beck averages: 19.0ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 63.5%(61-96), 3FGP: 28.3% and FT: 83.7%. He is a naturalized American. Beck is in the roster of the Mexican senior national team. He used to play for Correcaminos Victoria in Mexican league.

Earl Watson

   #3. The Mexican player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international point guard Earl Watson (185-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: UCLA, currently plays in NBA). Watson managed to help Utah Jazz in a victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves (15-14) crushing them 106-84 in the NBA on Wednesday night. He scored only 2 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 24 minutes. The Utah Jazz has 16-17 record this season. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This year Watson's overall stats are: 1.9ppg, 1.7rpg, 4.2apg, 2FGP: 30.6%, 3FGP: 14.3% and FT: 66.7% in the 18 games. He is a naturalized American. Watson played for the Mexican national team six years ago. Strangely he has never played in Mexico.

Paul Stoll

   #4. Point guard Paul Stoll (180-85, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Maccabi Haifa's victory against the eighth-ranked Maccabi Rishon (5-6) 79-73 in the Israeli Winner League in Sunday night's game. Stoll scored 8 points and added 5 assists. Maccabi Bazan Haifa (8-3) is placed second in the Winner League. Stoll belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #6. This season he has very high stats. Stoll averages: 15.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.2apg and 1.9spg. He is a naturalized American. Stoll is also Mexican national team player. He used to play for Algodoneros de La Comarca - Torreon in Mexican league.

   #5. Former University international guard Raul Delgado (188-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) led BYU to an easy victory against the Northern Arizona University (2-1) crushing them 84-54 in the NCAA last Thursday. Delgado scored 11 points and blocked 2 blocks in a mere 17 minutes. The Brigham Young University has 1-0 conference record this season. Delgado has very impressive stats this year: 15.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.2apg and 1.9spg in the 11 games. He used to play for the Mexican university national team two years ago.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Mexican passport:

   #1. Juan Anderson (198-F-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Marquette University to win in overtime against the University of Connecticut 82-76 in the NCAA on Tuesday night. Anderson recorded only 1 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Marquette University has conference record this season. Anderson has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.2apg and 1.9spg. Anderson is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Mexico.

The 31-year old power forward had the game-high 30 points adding eight rebounds and four assists for Nogales in his team's victory, helping them to beat Obregon (#8, 15-21) 95-90. The Regular Season in CIBACOPA is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 6 rounds. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Top ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (27-11) recorded its eleventh loss on the court of eleventh ranked Garra Canera de Navolato on Wednesday night. Marigney number one in Mexico for round 40 - May 26, 2016

American Guard Paul Marigney (192-G-82) had a very impressive game in the last round for Guaymas, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 40. The 33-year old player had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Tijuana (#7, 17-21) 86-81. Guaymas maintains the 3rd position in Mexican CIBACOPA.
