On December 6, the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal of FIBA ruled in arbitration (BAT 0294/12 Brown, Yam v/ Halcones UV Promotora Deportiva A.C.) that Halcones UV Xalapa owes their former player, Brandon Brown (201-F-85, college: CS San Bernar.) approximately $70,000 plus interest. On June 30, 2011, the parties entered into a guaranteed contract ("Agreement") for the 2011-2012 season. On September 23, 2011, the parties entered into a termination agreement providing for severance payments to be made to Brown. The agreed upon severance payments were never made. In thedecision by the arbitrator, he states, that "when the Parties entered into the termination agreement, it was expressed in clear terms that they were going their separate ways for agreed severance sums but that if those sums were not paid, the original financial obligations contained in the Agreement would be reinstated." The arbitrator ruled that when Halcones UV Xalapa failed to make the severance payments in the termination agreement, the financial obligations in the Agreement were revived and the arbitrator ruled that Halcones UV Xalapa owes Brown approximately $70,000 plus interest. Halcones UV Xalapa has failed to pay such judgment. Eurobasket has learned that based upon the team's failure to adhere to FIBA's decision, Brown's attorneys are requesting that FIBA enforce the judgment, levy additional fines and sanctions against Halcones UV Xalapa and block the team from signing new players in the future until the judgment is paid. Halcones UV Xalapa is currently in first place in Mexico with a record of 34-4 as they enter the playoffs as the #1 seed.

Mexico Faces Tough Games Against US, Puerto Rico in its Efforts to Advance to the 2019 FIBA World Cup - 1 day ago
As the preparatory rounds for the 2019 FIBA World Cup continue, the national team of Mexico seems on a solid yet uncertain track. The 18th edition of the World Cup that will take place in China will run from August 31 to September 15, 2019 - the tournament was rescheduled from 2018 and it marks significant departures from previous years, the most notable being that it will welcome 32 teams in total, instead of 24. Mexico is fighting the good fight so far - but what are the chances that it...   [read more]
