28-year old power forward Justin Keenan (202-F/C-88) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Soles and receives a Latinbasket.com LNBP Player of the Week award for round 34. He had the game-high 20 points adding seven rebounds for Soles in his team's victory, helping them to crush Correcaminos (#10, 6-29) with 18-point margin 84-66. Soles maintains the 2nd position in Mexican LNBP. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Soles will need more victories to improve their 23-12 record. Keenan turned to be Soles' top player in his first season with the team. Ferris State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Keenan is in league's top in points (3rd best: 24.5ppg), rebounds (4th best: 8.8rpg) and averages solid 64.7% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Arim Solares (202-F/C-83) of Indios. He is former international forward in his first season at Indios. In the last game Solares recorded impressive 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Indios lost that game 72-97 to slightly lower-ranked Santos (#8, 14-22). Indios managed to keep the same 7th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 14-21 record. Solares is a newcomer at Indios and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to forward Manuel Guzman (204-F/C-82) of Abejas (#9). Guzman showcased his all-around game by recording 21 points, twelve rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. Despite Guzman's great performance Abejas lost 72-84 to the higher-ranked Barreteros (#6, 16-18). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Abejas can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 10-26 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Guzman he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Guzman has individually a great season in Mexico. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.4ppg (4th best). He also has FGP: 51.1% and 3PT: 47.2%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. B.J. West (211-F-89) of Santos - 15 points and 13 rebounds 5. Fernando Rosales) of Santos - 18 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Jordan Glynn (200-F-89) of Fuerza Regia - 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists 7. Paul Marigney (192-G-82) of Barreteros - 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists 8. Matt Gwynne (208-F-87) of Barreteros - 21 points and 5 rebounds 9. Steffphon Pettigrew (196-F-89) of Abejas - 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists 10. Omar Quintero (182-PG-81) of Correcaminos - 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
