CIBACOPA Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings.

The most surprising game was a loss of Frayles de Guasave (1-1) on the court of Garra Canera de Navolato on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Garra Canera de Navolato 91-82. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 34-21. But Frayles de Guasave won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Garra Canera de Navolato shot 60.7 percent from the field. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 9 assists. Forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) with 24 points. Garra Canera de Navolato is looking forward to face Caballeros de Culiacan (#7) on the road in the next round. Frayles de Guasave will play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of Caballeros de Culiacan (1-1) against Lobos UAD Mazatlan (1-1) on Saturday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Lobos UAD Mazatlan in Mazatlan 91-81. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Taj Gray (204-84, college: Oklahoma) who led the winners and scored 22 points. Cliff Tucker accounted for 18 points and 6 assists. Lobos UAD Mazatlan's coach Eric Weissling allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Trinidad and Tobago-American point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn, agency: Interperformances) came up with 24 points and 5 assists for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will play against Aguilas Doradas de Durango (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Garra Canera de Navolato (#6) to get more than just one victory in their record.
Pioneros Los Mochis (0-2) were defeated at home by Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (2-0) with the biggest margin this round 95-84 on Saturday night. The best player for the winners was Michael Glover who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Cameron Forte who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will meet at home Rayos de Hermosillo (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Frayles de Guasave and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 3 Hermosillo won against Guaymas on the opponent's court 89-80.

Los Mochis - Obregon 84-95

Pioneros Los Mochis (0-2) were defeated at home by Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (2-0) with the biggest margin this round 95-84 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. Pioneros Los Mochis managed to win fourth quarter 29-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American forward Michael Glover (203-87, college: Iona) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized American swingman Joseph Hutchingson (196-87, college: Lincoln, MO) chipped in 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Halcones de Ciudad Obregon players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Cameron Forte (201-93, college: Portland St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import forward Lance Perique (203-83, college: Georgia St.) added 27 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will meet at home Rayos de Hermosillo (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Frayles de Guasave and hope to get finally their first victory.

Mazatlan - Culiacan 91-81

Very important is a road loss of Caballeros de Culiacan (1-1) against Lobos UAD Mazatlan (1-1) on Saturday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Lobos UAD Mazatlan in Mazatlan 91-81. It looked good early as Caballeros de Culiacan took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lobos UAD Mazatlan had a 31-16 second period charge getting the lead and Caballeros de Culiacan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-91. Lobos UAD Mazatlan dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 36. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Taj Gray (204-84, college: Oklahoma) who led the winners and scored 22 points. His fellow American import swingman Cliff Tucker (198-89, college: Maryland) accounted for 18 points and 6 assists for the winning side. There was a minor upset when Ostioneros de Guaymas (1-1) were defeated at home by Rayos de Hermosillo (1-1) 89-80 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 50-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Tristan Spurlock (203-91, college: Cent.Florida) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Emmanuel Little (196-85, college: N.Dakota) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Little is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Bahrain swingman Rashad Woods (197-86, college: Kent St.) who recorded 21 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Rayos de Hermosillo and five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet Halcones de Ciudad Obregon on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Tijuana Zonkeys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
