The most exciting game of round 23 in the CIBACOPA took place in Tijuana. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Tijuana Zonkeys (13-10) to sixth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (12-10) 83-80 on Tuesday evening. Ostioneros de Guaymas outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 43-30 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American center Allen West (206-91, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds. His fellow American import Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy) helped adding 21 points and 6 rebounds. American center Leon Gibson (206-91, college: Houston) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains sixth place with 12-10 record. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third position with ten games lost. They share it with Durango and Guasave. Ostioneros de Guaymas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play again at home against Ostioneros de Guaymas and are hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they edged fourth-ranked Aguilas Doradas de Durango 90-87. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Aguilas Doradas de Durango. It was an exceptional evening for Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) who led the winners and scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Jeff Ledbetter accounted for 24 points and 7 assists. American point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-91, college: Jackson St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 assists for Aguilas Doradas de Durango in the defeat. Lobos UAD Mazatlan (7-16) moved-up to ninth place. Aguilas Doradas de Durango at the other side dropped to the third position with ten games lost. They share it with Guasave and Tijuana. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will again play against higher ranked Aguilas Doradas de Durango (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aguilas Doradas de Durango will have a break next round.
CIBACOPA top team - Garra Canera de Navolato (15-7) added another victory to their record on Tuesday. This time they beat seventh ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (11-11) 95-88. The best player for the winners was Martin Samarco who scored 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. DuVaughn Maxwell produced 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Garra Canera de Navolato have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-7 record. Loser Caballeros de Culiacan keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Garra Canera de Navolato will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play again against the league's leader Garra Canera de Navolato (#1) and hope to secure a win.
Second ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (15-8) beat at home 8th ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (8-15) by 7 points 107-100, which is the biggest margin this round. Quinton Chievous orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Rayos de Hermosillo maintains second place with 15-8 record having just one point less than leader Navolato. Defending champion Halcones de Ciudad Obregon keeps the eighth position with 15 games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo's next round opponent will be again Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#8) at home which should be theoretically an easy game.

In the last game of round 23 Guasave won against Los Mochis on the opponent's court 93-89.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 27 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Isaiah Wilkerson of Obregon.



Tijuana - Guaymas 80-83

Rayos de Hermosillo dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Halcones de Ciudad Obregon's 46. Rayos de Hermosillo players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American swingman Quinton Chievous (198-92, college: Hampton) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Luke Moyer (185-93, college: John Brown) contributed with 27 points and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Rick Bodiford (193-87, college: Z*Orangeville A's) chipped in 27 points and 9 rebounds.
