Libertad tops the table undefeated

The last two rounds of the 'Top 5 Tournment' ended very well for Libertad, winner over UAA 99-68 and then over Sol de America 99-86. Thanks to this last win, Liberatd is at the top yet undefeated and can really point to the final win. The best players in the win over Sol were Daniel Perez (190-G/F-84), who topped the scoring at 22 pts, Aldo Acosta (192-F-76), who scored 21 pts, Elias Sosa (196-F/C-82) and Ricardo Ozuna (185-G/F-82), who added 15 pts each. Peter Kiganya (197-F-72, college: Abil.Christian) was the game top performer with 25 pts in losing effort. The other games ended as follows: Sol de America - Dep.San Jose 69-57 and Dep.San Jose - FPC 84-70. The standings are now as follows:

In Day 3, Sol de Amrica defeated Felix Perez, 85-63 led by Guillermo Araujo (204-C-82), who scored 20 pts. In the other game of the round, Deportivo San Jos destroyed UAA 102-68 with Hugo Paredes (198-F-84) and Orlando Storer (205-C-86) leadingteh way at 21 and 15 points, respectivey. The Round 4 will be played tonight, with the games UAA vs Libertad (19:00) and Sol de America vs San Jose (21:00). The table is now as folllows: 1. Libertad 2-0 2.

Defeating Deportivo San Jose 98-88, Libertad won its second game in a row and now leads the 'Top 5 Tournment' undefeated. The best in Libertad were newly acquired Ricardo Ozuna (185-G/F-82) and Aldo Acosta (192-F/G-76), with 26 and 24 points, respectively. In the other game of the second round, Universidad Autnoma (UAA) prevailed over Felix Perez, 90-87 after an overtime, led by Orlando Martinez (187-G/F-72) with 22 pts and Alfredo Perez with 19, while Anderson Villamayor (190-F-80) was the night top scorer with 30 pts in FPC. The Top 5 standings table is as follows:

The first round of the 'Top 5 Tournment' was played yesterday night in Asuncion, and the first results were wins of the two favourite teams. National Champions of Sol de America defeated 99-61 Universidad Autonoma Asuncion (partial scores 28-15, 53-33, 80-47) and Libertad prevailed over Felix Perez Cardozo 79-69 (partial scores 19-14, 39-31, 57-56). Deportivo San Jose was on stand-by The compettion goes on tonight, with the games UAA - FPC and Libertad - San Jose. If Sol de America will triumph even in this 'Top 5', will be named Paraguayan Champion 2008. Otherwise, the winner of the 'Top 5' will play Sol de America, in the so-named Super Copa Nacional, on November 20 and 29, 2008.

UAA wins Metropolitan league

Universidad Autonoma de Asuncion (UAA) defeated Universidad Catolica (UCA) 68-65 in Game 4 of the Finals, becoming the 2008 Metropolitamn League Champion. With 20 points and tons of rebounds, Leonardo Maier (198-C-72) was the main factor in the win, Edgar Morel (185-G-80) added 12 points and the winning side, while Hector Vairoletto (188-F) and Oscar Vairoletto (198-F/C-84) scored 15 and 14 pts, respectively for UCA. Thanks to the win in this so-named 'Torneo Estadio Comuneros, Universidad Autonoma qualified for the 'Top 5 Tournment', together with the best four teams of Asuncion, Sol de America, San Jose Vitathon, Libertad and Felix Perez Cardozo. The 'Top 5' will start on August 7.

Universidad Catolica (UCA) defeated Universidad Autonoma (UAA) in Game 2 of the Metropolitan League Final Series and now leads 2-1 in the aggregate, given that received a 1 win bonus for having ended at the first place the regular season. The main performers in Game 2 were Hector Vairoletto (188-F), who scored 21 pts, Oscar Vairoletto (198-F/C-84), Guillermo Osorio (-F) and Alejandro Perez (-G/F) who added 17 pts each in UCA, while the best in UAA was Aldo Acosta (192-F/G-76) with 28 pts.

Libertad will play in the upcoming 'Top 5 Tournment' witha brand new coach. He is Valentin Sanchez , who signed a contract with the team yesterday and will be introduced to media soon. The 'Top 5' will start on August 7.

Riveros goes to Argentina

Argentinean Liga A team Regatas de Corrientes agreed to terms with Carlos Jorge Riveros (190-G-85), who will make his debut in a foreign league next fall. Riveros was the top scorer of Deportivo San Jose Asuncion in recently ended National League. Before to negotiate with him, Regatas had tried to sign Renzo Ferrari (191-G/F-84), from Sol de America, but this last player opted to stay in Paraguay.

UAA will challenge UCA for the Metropolitan League title

The male team of Universidad Autonoma de Asuncion (UAA) prevailed over Sportivo San Lorenzo in the Metropolitan League Semifinal series advancing to the league Finals, where will meet Universidad Catolica. Game 1 of the Semifinals had ended 78-70 for San Lorenzo, bur UAA came back, winning Game 2, 92-77, and then Game 3, 88-85, winning the series. The best performers of Game 3 were Luis Fernando Dose (201-F/C-65), who scored 27 points in losing effort, Aldo Acosta (192-F/G-76), who led UAA with 24 pts and Mario Olmedo (178-G-78), who added 20 pts. Game 1 of the Metro Finals will be played on Tuesday night. The Finals are best of five games, and the winner team will gain the participation to the 'Top Five Tournament', that will start on August 7, 2008.
