Amir
Alvarado
Defending champion Ferreteria Brenes Barva (LBS) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old Panamanian small forward Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown CC). It is actually his comeback to Barva as he has played here before. Alvarado played in the summer at Halcones in Panamanian LPB league. In 15 games he recorded 7.3ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.6apg. Alvarado helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals. He also played that season for Super Cable Grecia.
Alvarado represented Panama at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez (Puerto Rico) six years ago. His stats at that event were 2 games: 2.5ppg, 1.0rpg.
Alvarado has played previously professionally also in Costa Rica (Liceo).
He attended Marshalltown CC until 2006 and it will be his eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A solid front court player, not so spectacular, but very effective. Can score in various ways and from various distances, knows how to defend, can dominate a game.
