  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Panamanian players, who play currently abroad.

Michael Hicks
Michael Hicks
#1. This week's number one is an experienced international forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in Uruguay). He led Hebraica to a victory over the eighth-ranked Trouville (2-12) 85-66 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB in Wednesday night's game. Hicks was MVP of the game. He scored 24 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 5 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) in 34 minutes on the court. Hebraica Macabi Montevideo (10-4) is placed first in Promocional 1 group. Hicks has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.4ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.5apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 48.2%, 3FGP: 41.4% and FT: 78.2% in 26 games he played so far. Ex-Toros del Chiriqui David player is currently a member of the Panamanian senior national team.

Jaime Lloreda
Jaime Lloreda
#2. Second place goes to an international center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU, currently plays in Uruguay) is a teammate of previously mentioned Michael Hicks and both played together in the last Uruguayan LUB game. Lloreda contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Trouville (2-12) 85-66 in a derby game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Lloreda also added and 4 steals. Lloreda has relatively good stats this season: 11.7ppg, 10.8rpg, 2FGP: 62.6%(92-147) and FT: 61.0%. Ex-Magnates de Calidonia player is in the roster of the Panamanian senior national team.

Josimar Ayarza
Josimar Ayarza
#3. The Panamanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Argentina). He could not help Echague (8-38) in their last game. Despite Ayarza's very good performance the tenth-placed Echague (8-38) was badly defeated 86-68 on the road by the higher-ranked (#8) Penarol in the Norte group. He was the top scorer with 18 points. Ayarza also added 8 rebounds in 35 minutes. It was Echague's fourth consecutive loss in a row. It's Ayarza's first season with the team. He has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg, 4.9rpg, 2FGP: 55.5%(71-128), 3FGP: 42.4% and FT: 73.3% in 18 games. Ex-Aguilas de Rio Abajo Panama City player is also a member of the Panamanian senior national team.

Ernesto Oglivie
Ernesto Oglivie
#4. Forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89, currently plays in Uruguay) faced previously mentioned Michael Hicks in the Uruguayan LUB last game. Oglivie was not able to help Trouville in their game against Hebraica (10-4). He scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Trouville (#8) was badly defeated 85-66 in a derby game by the leading Hebraica in the Promocional 1 group. It was Trouville's fifth consecutive loss in a row. This season Oglivie has very high stats. He averages: 15.2ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.3spg. Oglivie is also Panamanian national team player.

Gary Forbes
Gary Forbes
#5. Former international swingman Gary Forbes (201-85, college: Virginia, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to secure a victory for Boca Juniors (14-33) in their game against Argentino (24-23) in the Argentinian LigaA. Forbes scored 6 points. Boca Juniors (#10) was defeated 78-74 in Junin by the higher-ranked Argentino (#5) in the Sur group. This season Forbes has relatively solid stats: 10.1ppg, 3.5rpg and 2.8apg. He is a naturalized American. Forbes used to play for the Panamanian national team six years ago. Strangely he has never played in Panama.

The list of other players, who all have Panamanian passport but never been selected to any of Panamanian national teams:

#1. Nate Butler Lind (198-SG-89, college: TCU, currently plays in Puerto Rico) could not help Indios (1-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance Indios lost 83-92 on the road to the higher-ranked (#6) Atleticos. Butler Lind scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 22 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Butler Lind's overall stats are: 6.3ppg, 4.3rpg and 2.5apg in four games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Panamanian and Puerto Rican. Despite Butler Lind's Panamanian passport, he previously played for the Puerto Rican U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Panamanian team.

#2. Jordan Henriquez-Roberts (214-C-89, agency: Babcock Sports, college: Kansas St., currently plays in ASEAN League) was not able to help Saigon Heat in their game against Hong Kong ELL (16-4) in the ASEAN League, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Henriquez-Roberts had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 19 rebounds. He also added 4 blocks in 39 minutes. But Saigon Heat lost 79-86 in Hong Kong to the leading Hong Kong ELL. It was Saigon Heat's third consecutive loss in a row. Henriquez-Roberts has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.2ppg, 15.7rpg, 1.8apg and 2.8bpg in 12 games. Henriquez-Roberts is a naturalized American. He used to play for Correcaminos de Colon in Panamanian league.
