Naturalized American center Peter John Ramos (222-C-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for Arecibo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 23. The 27-year old center had a double-double of 21 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat Bayamon (#10, 5-15) 103-98. Arecibo maintains the 8th position in American BSN. Arecibo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 8-11 record. Ramos just recently signed at Arecibo, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Ramos has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 16.9ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 10.4rpg) and averages solid 53.8% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was 32-year old Panamanian power forward Jose Lloreda (203-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports) of Guaynabo. Lloreda impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds. Bad luck as Guaynabo lost that game 75-85 to the higher-ranked Quebradillas (#4, 11-9). This loss caused Guaynabo to drop to 7th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 9-10 record. Lloreda is one of the most experienced players at Guaynabo and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last week was Panamanian Jamelle Horne (200-F-88) of Humacao (#5). Horne scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of Humacao, leading his team to a 94-75 easy win against Guayama (10-9). Humacao needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 10 victories and 9 lost games. Horne has a very solid season. In 19 games in Puerto Rico he scored 15.8ppg. He also has 6.8rpg and FGP: 61.3%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86) of Arecibo - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Kevin Lisch (188-G-86) of Quebradillas - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Javier Mojica (190-G-84) of Bayamon - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists 7. Alejandro Carmona (194-G/F-83) of Humacao - 27 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Wilfredo Pagan (184-PG-76) of Santurce - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Lorenzo Mata (205-C-86) of Quebradillas - 8 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Christophe Massie (206-C/F-77) of San German - 10 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
