Carlos Strong (191-G-87, college: Boston U.) signed with Sodertalje Kings in Sweden for the 2012-2013 season. Strong played last season with Atleticos de San German and averaged 11.97 points in 29 games.
Last season he was one of the most efficient scorers in the league as he made 41% from three-point range.
In 2011 Strong was part of the Puerto Rican National Team that won the Gold Medal in the Pan-American Games.
Another Puerto Rican that signed overseas was David Cortes (190-G/F-81) who joins Huracanes del Atlantico in the Dominican Republic.
Cortes made his debut yesterday in the 88-79 loss to Metros. He scored 10 points for Huracanes.
Meanwhile David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) could sign soon with Obras Sanitarias in Argentina. Huertas played for Piratas de Quebradillas, Metros de Santiago (DOM) and had a good performance with the Puerto Rican National Team this summer.

Caciques de Humacao (BSN) released 29-year old American swingman Derrick Byars (201-100kg-84, college: Vanderbilt, agency: Beo Basket). In 7 BSN games he had 9.7ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.3apg this season.

Complete player with good lateral quickness and athleticism. Defensively Byars does a great job staying in front of his man. Fundamentally there are few guards in the draft that have his array of tools. Plays the game with a good level of moxie and toughness. Excellent ball handler who has played point guard several times during his collegiate career
Shot selection at times can be questionable. Would benefit his game if he utilized the mid-range shot more.

The 28-year old forward had the game-high 29 points adding nine rebounds and four assists for Guayama in his team's victory, helping them to beat Ponce (#1, 21-12) 84-73. Guayama is placed at 6th position in American BSN. Guayama is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 17-16 record. Balkman just recently signed at Guayama, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Renaldo Balkman averages this season 13.6ppg and 6.6rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was 26-year old former international swingman Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-G/F-86) of Arecibo. Vassallo impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Of course he lead Arecibo to another comfortable win 89-72 over slightly lower-ranked San German (#10, 9-24) being unquestionably team leader. Arecibo's 8th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 16-17 record. Vassallo is one of the most experienced players at Arecibo and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.1ppg (#6). He also registered 6.4 boards per game.
The third best performed player last week was American center Daniel Santiago (216-C-76, agency: Priority Sports) of Guaynabo (#4). Santiago scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He was a key player of Guaynabo, leading his team to a 94-87 win against the lower-ranked Bayamon (#9, 9-24). Guaynabo needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 19 victories and 14 lost games. Santiago has a very solid season. In 15 games in Puerto Rico he scored 11.3ppg. He also has 6.4rpg, 1.1bpg and FGP: 57.4%. Daniel Santiago has also Puerto Rican passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
