He had a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Guaynabo (#8, 10-13) 111-100. Arecibo maintains the 5th position in Puerto Rican league. Arecibo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 12-11 record. In the team's last game Vassallo had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He just recently signed at Arecibo, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Virginia Tech graduate has very impressive stats this year. Vassallo is in league's top in points (7th best: 17.0ppg).
Second best performed player last week was Jose Lloreda (203-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports) of Guaynabo. He is Panamanian forward in his first season at Guaynabo. In the last game Lloreda recorded impressive double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Guaynabo lost that game 100-111 to the higher-ranked Arecibo (#5, 12-11). Guaynabo is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-13 record. Lloreda is one of the most experienced players at Guaynabo and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to another Arecibo's star - center Windi Graterol (204-C-86). Graterol scored 13 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Arecibo, helping his team with a 111-100 win against the lower-ranked Guaynabo (#8, 10-13). Arecibo needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 11 lost games. Graterol has a great season in Puerto Rico. After 22 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.1rpg (8th best).

Elegar also played 16 games in VTB United League where he had 8.3ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.6spg. The last season he played at Antalya Buyuksehir Belediye (TBL) in Turkish league. In 12 games he had 10.8ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.3spg and 1.4bpg. Elegar also spent pre-season at Marousi BC (A1, starting five) in Greek league that year. In 13 games he had 9.1ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.1bpg. He was tried-out by Olimpico de La Banda (LigaA) in Argentinian league that season. The previous (10-11) season Elegar played at JA Vichy (ProA, starting five) in French league. In 23 games he had 9.7ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.8spg. He contributed to his team making it to the French Cup Semifinals. In 2009-10 season Elegar played at Bornova Belediye in Turkish league. In 33 games he had 11.8ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.1apg, 1.2spg and 1.2bpg. In 2008 he was drafted by Albany Patroons (CBA) in fourth round (16th overall). The former Drexel University standoutis in his fifth season in pro basketball. He received NABC All-NCAA District 3 1st Team award back in 2007 at his college time. Elegar also represented U.S. Virgin Islands at the Panamerican Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) six years ago. His stats at that event were 5 games: 11.8ppg, 5.8rpg, 2FGP: 52.3%, 3PT: 0.0%. Elegar has played also professionally in Germany (Eisbaeren Bremerhaven).

The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was 25-year old American forward Gilbert Brown (198-F-87) of Humacao. Brown impressed basketball fans with 33 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Humacao was edged by the lower-ranked San German (#9, 8-14) 68-66. This loss caused Humacao to drop to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-12 record. Brown is one of the most experienced players at Humacao and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.5ppg (#6). He also recorded 3.2 assists per game.
The third best performed player last week was another Ponce's star - Nigerian Ike Diogu (204-F/C-83). Diogu scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was another key player of Ponce, helping his team with a 85-78 win against the lower-ranked Guayama (#7, 10-12). Ponce needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 14 victories and 8 lost games. Diogu has a very solid season. In 9 games in Puerto Rico he scored 22.3ppg. He also has 9.2rpg, FGP: 55.5% and 3PT: 46.2%.
