He had a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Guaynabo (#8, 10-13) 111-100. Arecibo maintains the 5th position in Puerto Rican league. Arecibo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 12-11 record. In the team's last game Vassallo had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He just recently signed at Arecibo, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Virginia Tech graduate has very impressive stats this year. Vassallo is in league's top in points (7th best: 17.0ppg).
Second best performed player last week was Jose Lloreda (203-F/C-80, agency: Paris Global Sports) of Guaynabo. He is Panamanian forward in his first season at Guaynabo. In the last game Lloreda recorded impressive double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Guaynabo lost that game 100-111 to the higher-ranked Arecibo (#5, 12-11). Guaynabo is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-13 record. Lloreda is one of the most experienced players at Guaynabo and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to another Arecibo's star - center Windi Graterol (204-C-86). Graterol scored 13 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Arecibo, helping his team with a 111-100 win against the lower-ranked Guaynabo (#8, 10-13). Arecibo needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 11 lost games. Graterol has a great season in Puerto Rico. After 22 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.1rpg (8th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. David Cortes Ruiz (194-F-82) of Arecibo - 25 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Terrence Shannon (203-F-79) of Bayamon - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Lorenzo Mata (205-C-86) of Quebradillas - 9 points and 10 rebounds 7.
