We bring you last week's top performances from Puerto Ricans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Ricardo Sanchez (212-87, currently plays in Argentina). He led Libertad Sunchales to a victory over the league leader Regatas Corrientes (22-8) 95-83 in the Argentinian LigaA in Friday night's game. Sanchez was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 10 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Libertad Sunchales (18-11) is placed fourth in the LigaA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Sanchez's first season with the team. Sanchez belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #6 with 7.5rpg. He also averaged so far 12.5ppg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 43.8%, 3FGP: 43.2% and FT: 76.2% in the 21 games he played so far. Sanchez is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Jose Juan Barea (181-84, college: Northeastern, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (17-23) in their last game on Monday. Despite Barea's good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves were defeated 104-96 on the road by the Atlanta Hawks. He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Barea also added 7 passes. Barea has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 11.1ppg, 3.1rpg, 4.6apg, 2FGP: 45.0%, 3FGP: 32.7% and FT: 82.9%. Barea is in the roster of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, agency: Interperformances, college: FIU, currently plays in Eurocup). He was the major contributor in Galatasaray's victory against the closely-ranked ratiopharm Ulm (1-2) 82-66 in the Eurocup on Tuesday night. Arroyo scored 15 points and added 8 assists in 31 minutes. Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul (2-1) is placed second in group L. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Top 16. So now every game will be critical. Arroyo has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 4.7apg, 2FGP: 31.3%, 3FGP: 58.3% and FT: 83.3% in the three games. Former Cangrejeros Santurce starter played for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago.

   #4. Center Peter John Ramos (222-85, currently plays in China), who plays in the Chinese CBA was not able to help Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (13-13) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance Zhejiang Guangsha Lions were badly defeated 113-96 in Beijing by the higher-ranked Ducks (#3). Ramos recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points and getting 14 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). This season Ramos has very high stats. He averages: 22.8ppg, 11.8rpg and 1.5apg. Ramos has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. He is also Puerto Rican national team player. Ramos used to play for Criollos de Caguas in Puerto Rican league.

   #5. Former international swingman John Holland (195-88, college: Boston U., currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in Cajasol's victory against the closely-ranked UCAM Murcia (7-11) 81-73 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He was the best player in that game. Holland scored 22 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 27 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. Cajasol Banca Civica Sevilla (7-11) is placed 13th in the ACB. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Holland has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.2apg in the 18 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Holland used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago. He played also for Caciques de Humacao in Puerto Rican league.

David Huertas

   #6. Swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to Panteras' victory against the 12th-ranked Lechugueros (12-28) 90-82 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) in Friday night's game. Huertas was the top player that evening. He scored 29 points (!!!), had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 38 minutes. Panteras de Aguascalientes (28-12) is placed fifth in the LNBP. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Huertas is currently third on the league's list of top scorers with 23.6ppg. He also averaged so far 3.8rpg, 2.4apg and 1.2spg in the 23 games. Huertas is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

Former U18 international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the Kansas St. (4-1) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance the Kansas St. was defeated 59-55 at home by the University of Kansas. Rodriguez recorded 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Rodriguez's overall stats this season are:, 3.8rpg, 2.4apg and 1.2spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team three years ago.

   #8. Forward Alexander Galindo (200-85, college: FIU, currently plays in Uruguay) contributed to Malvin's victory against the seventh-ranked Aguada (0-2) 90-84 in the Uruguayan LUB on Friday night. Galindo recorded 16 points and added 5 assists in 34 minutes. Malvinis placed third in Serie 1. Galindo has reliable stats this year: 14.9ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.2apg in the 25 games. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team.

International center Daniel Santiago (216-76, agency: Priority Sports, college: N.Mexico, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to an Boca Juniors' victory against the 11th-ranked GECR Indalo (14-16) 87-79 in the Argentinian LigaA in Friday night's game. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. Aerochaco Boca Juniors Capital Feder (16-13) is placed sixth in the LigaA. Santiago's stats this year are: 11.4ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.4apg in the 28 games. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Santiago is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team. He used to play for Vaqueros de Bayamon in Puerto Rican league.

Pagan was the top player that evening. He scored 23 points. Toros Nuevo Laredo (31-9) is placed fourth in the LNBP. Pagan averaged so far 11.0ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.3apg and 1.2spg. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Pagan is a former international player as eleven years ago he still played for the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rican league.

   #11. Former U21 international forward Gilberto Clavell (201-89, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Sam Houston St., currently plays in Finland) couldn't help Kouvot in their game against Loimaan Korikonkarit in the Finnish Korisliiga, despite his very good performance on Wednesday night. Clavell was the top scorer with 28 points. He also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 38 minutes. But his team lost 77-82. Clavell is currently fourth on the list of top scorers with 19.8ppg. This year his other stats are: 6.3rpg and 1.1apg in the 24 games. Clavell used to play for the Puerto Rican U21 national team seven years ago.

   #12. Former U19 international guard Isaac Sosa Carrion (190-90, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Siena College crushing them 76-44 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. He recorded 18 points. Sosa Carrion's overall stats this season are:, 6.3rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U19 national team back in 2009.

   #13. Former international guard Javier Mojica (190-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help Quimsa in their game against Sionista in the Argentinian LigaA, despite his good performance on Friday night. He scored 12 points in 28 minutes. But his team lost 73-80. Mojica averaged so far 10.6ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.9apg in the 23 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Mojica used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago. He played also for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

   #14. Former U19 international point guard Raymond Cintron Cortes (183-90, is currently at the American university) contributed to an easy victory against the University Louisiana at Lafayette crushing them 82-60 in the NCAA last Saturday. He recorded 12 points in 21 minutes. Cintron Cortes has very impressive stats this year: 18.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.3apg and 1.3spg in the 13 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U19 national team back in 2009.

   #15. Former international guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy, currently plays in Austria) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Arkadia Lions crushing them 107-55 in the Austrian A Bundesliga on Sunday night. Chaney was the top player that evening. He recorded 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. This season Chaney has very high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2spg. Chaney holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team three years ago. Chaney played also for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rican league.

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Poland could not help Stelmet ZG (1-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Hodge's good performance the third-placed Stelmet ZG was badly defeated 89-69 at home by the second-ranked Spartak St.Petersburg in the group K of Eurocup. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Hodge also added 6 assists. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Top 16. So now every game will be critical. Hodge is currently first on the list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Hodge averages: 20.6ppg, 1.7rpg and 5.2apg. He has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. TreVon Hughes (183-PG-87, agency: Edge Sports, college: Wisconsin, currently plays in Lithuania) led Pieno Zvaigzdes to a victory against the league leader Rudupis (11-1) 82-77 in the Lithuanian LKL in Saturday night's game. Hughes scored 12 points, grabbed 6 boards, passed 3 assists and added 4 steals. Pieno Zvaigzdes Pasvalys (6-6) is placed seventh in the LKL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Hughes belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #4) and also on the list of most steals (second place). This season he has very high stats. Hughes averages: 15.4ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.3apg and 1.9spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Strangely Hughes has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #3. Ricardo Melendez (179-PG-83, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Mexico) was the major contributor in Panteras' victory against the 12th-ranked Lechugueros (12-28) 90-82 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Friday. He scored 22 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 34 minutes. Panteras de Aguascalientes (28-12) is placed fifth in the LNBP. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Melendez is currently second on the league's list of top scorers with 26.2ppg. This year he also averages: 2.6rpg, 2.7apg and 1.2spg in the 44 games he played so far.

   #4. Maurice Harkless (203-G/F-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Orlando Magic (14-28) in their game against the Dallas Mavericks (18-25) in the NBA. Harkless scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Orlando Magic was defeated 111-105 on the road by the Mavericks. It was Magic's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Harkless' overall stats this season are: 3.8ppg and 3.2rpg. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Strangely Harkless has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #5. Ivan Aska (200-F-90, college: Murray St., currently plays in Belgium) led Leuven Bears to a 1-point victory over the closely-ranked Antwerp Giants (6-7) 78-77 in the Belgian Ethias League last Saturday. Aska was the top player that evening. He recorded 21 points in 32 minutes; not bad, considering it's only Aska's third season in pro basketball. Stella Artois Leuven Bears (4-9) is placed second from the bottom (#7) in the Ethias League. It was Leuven Bears' first victory after four consecutive loses. Aska is currently sixth on the league's list of best rebounders with 6.5rpg. This year he also averages: 14.5ppg, 1.8apg and 1.5spg in the 13 games. Aska also holds two passports: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #6. Florentino Valencia (198-F-85, also represented by Paris Global Sports, college: Toledo, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican LNBP (second division) was not able to secure a victory for Barreteros (17-23) in their last game on Friday. Despite Valencia's very good performance Barreteros was defeated in an overtime 88-84 on their home court in Zacatecas by the higher-ranked Fuerza Regia (#7). He was the second best scorer with 19 points. Valencia also added 4 rebounds. This season he has very high stats. Valencia averages: 15.1ppg and 5.7rpg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Valencia used to play for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

   #7. Devon Collier (203-F, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an Oregon St.'s surprising victory against the The University of Washington 74-66 in the NCAA in Wednesday night's game. He scored 16 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 30 minutes. Collier has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg and 5.7rpg in the nine games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Strangely Collier has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #8. Ramon Clemente (200-PF-85, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Israel) led Ironi Nahariya to a victory over the ninth-ranked Hapoel Kfar Saba crushing them 99-72 in the Israeli National League (second division) last Wednesday. He was the top player that evening. Clemente scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. This season he has very high stats. Clemente averages: 18.8ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.4apg and 1.5spg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Clemente used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #9. Donald Copeland (177-PG-84, college: Seton Hall, currently plays in Hungary) contributed to a ZTE KK's victory against one of league's weakest teams FS Debrecen 79-74 in the Hungarian A Division in Saturday night's game. Copeland scored 16 points and added 3 assists (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line). Copeland belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #5. This season he has very high stats. Copeland averages: 18.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.3apg and 1.3spg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Copeland used to play for Gigantes de Carolina in Puerto Rican league.

   #10. Experienced Darnell Hinson (186-PG-80, college: Northeastern St., currently plays in Austria) helped Redwell Gunners Oberwart win their game against the league outsider Arkadia Lions crushing them 107-55 in the Austrian A Bundesliga on Sunday night. He recorded 17 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in 22 minutes. Hinson has very impressive stats this year: 22.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.9apg and 2.1spg in the seven games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Hinson used to play for Grises de Humacao in Puerto Rican league.

Unics Kazan (VTB) agreed terms with 24-year old American forward Coty Clarke (201-105kg-92, college: Arkansas). He played this summer at Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rican BSN league. Clarke managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 19 BSN games he was third best scorer with impressive 19.1ppg and averaged 6.3rpg and 4.4apg. Emory played in the summer at Ponce in Puerto Rican BSN league. In 37 games he averaged 9.8ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.5apg and 1.0spg. Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank (CBA) landed 24-year old American center Cady Lalanne (208-113kg-92, college: Massachusetts). He played in the summer at Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rican BSN league. In 22 games he averaged 10.8ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.0apg and 1.1bpg. Lalanne helped them to win the league title. The last season he played at Austin Toros in D-League where in 56 games he had 12.4ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.2bpg.
