Carlos Rivera

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Liga Americas). He led his Mexican team Fuerza Regia to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Los Leones (0-3) crushing them 109-73 in the LNBP in Friday night's game. Rivera had a double-double by scoring 19 points and making 10 passes. He also added 5 rebounds in 28 minutes on the court. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (3-0) is placed fifth in the LNBP. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. The Regular Season already ended in the LNBP. It's Rivera's first season with the team. Former Atleticos de San German starter played for the Puerto Rican senior national team two years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy, currently plays in Uruguay). Chaney led Bigua to a victory over the sixth-ranked Defensor (3-5) 96-91 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB on Tuesday night. He was MVP of the game. Chaney scored 28 points (!!!), grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 34 minutes. Atletico Bigua Montevideo (4-3) is placed third in Promocional 1 group. Chaney has relatively good stats this year: 12.4ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.0apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 48.4%, 3FGP: 37.3% and FT: 75.6% in 16 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. Chaney is in the roster of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rican league.

Ramon Clemente

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina). Clemente was the major contributor in Ferrocarril's victory against the seventh-ranked Penarol (6-8) 75-73 in the Argentinian LigaA in Wednesday night's game. He scored 17 points, had 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (20-9) is placed second in Sur group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This season Clemente has relatively solid stats: 14.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 65.1%(123-189), 3FGP: 43.1% and FT: 80.6%. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Clemente is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #4. Shooting guard Javier Mojica (190-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Uruguay) faced previously mentioned Richard Chaney in the Uruguayan LUB last game. Mojica could not help Defensor (3-5) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the sixth-placed Defensor (3-5) lost 91-96 in a derby game to the higher-ranked (#3) Bigua in the Promocional 1 group. Mojica was the second best scorer with 20 points in 39 minutes. It was Defensor's fifth consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Mojica has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 3.0rpg and 2.0apg in three games. Mojica has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015. Mojica played also for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

Alex Abreu

   #5. International point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in Liga Americas) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Guaros (2-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance Guaros lost 78-84 on the road to the higher-ranked (#5) Fuerza Regia. Abreu was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added made 5 passes and 3 steals in a mere 19 minutes. The Regular Season already ended in the Liga Americas. This year Abreu's overall stats are: 9.0ppg, 2.3rpg, 5.0apg and 2.3spg in three games. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team.

Maurice Harkless

   #6. Swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Charlotte Hornets (24-26) 115-98 in the NBA in Tuesday night's game. He recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Portland Trail Blazers have 22-28 record this season. Harkless has reliable stats this year: 10.9ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1spg. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #7. Former international point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to Toros' victory against the league outsider Correcaminos (6-26) 97-83 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Friday. Pagan scored 12 points and added 5 passes (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line) in 23 minutes. Toros de Nuevo Laredo (19-13) is placed third in the LNBP. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Pagan's total stats are: 7.1ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.2apg in 25 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Pagan used to play for the Puerto Rican national team fifteen years ago. He played also for Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rican league.

Guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Atenas' victory against the seventh-ranked Penarol (6-8) 85-77 in the Argentinian LigaA on Friday night. De Jesus scored 15 points. Atenas Cordoba (11-18) is placed ninth in Norte group. De Jesus has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015.

William Orozco

   #9. International forward William Orozco (201-85, also represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Santos (12-21) crushing them 112-73 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) in Thursday night's game. Orozco had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 assists in 25 minutes. Garzas de Plata Hidalgo (18-14) is placed fifth in the LNBP. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Orozco has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7apg in nine games. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team.

   #10. Point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Slovakia) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Nova Ves (4-24) crushing them 103-60 in the Slovakian SBL last Saturday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and making 11 passes (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line). BK Iskra Svit (13-15) is placed seventh in the SBL. Gonzalez's stats this season are: 14.3ppg, 3.1rpg, 5.0apg and 1.5spg. Worth to mention Gonzalez played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

   #11. Former U18 international guard Rasham Suarez (190-92, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Estonia) was not able to secure a victory for Rapla in their game against TU/Rock in the Estonian Alexela KML. Suarez scored 6 points and added 6 assists. His team was defeated 79-73. Suarez has averaged so far 9.8ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.2apg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team seven years ago.

   #12. International guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Liga Americas) managed to help San Lorenzo de Almagra in a victory against the closely-ranked Bucaneros crushing them 76-51 in the Liga Americas last Friday. Diaz recorded only 4 points in 17 minutes. It was his first game for San Lorenzo this season. Diaz is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team.

   #13. Former U18 international forward Willie Rodriguez (198-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the one of league's weakest teams Binghamton in their game against the University of Maryland -Baltimore County in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance last Wednesday He scored 19 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Rodriguez averaged so far 12.9ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3apg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Rodriguez used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team five years ago. Apparently he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #14. International power forward Ricardo Sanchez (212-87, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Liga Americas) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Caballos in their game against Guaros in the Liga Americas, despite his very good performance on Friday night. Sanchez was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 36 minutes. But his team lost 83-92. Sanchez's stats this year are: 12.3ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.7apg in three games. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team.

   #15. U18 international guard Jorge Pacheco (185-98, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Campbell University crushing them 72-40 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Pacheco scored 12 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Pacheco has averaged so far 6.8ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.2apg. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican U18 national team.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in France) could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite Hodge's very good performance ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was defeated 88-74 on the road by the higher-ranked JSF Nanterre (#4). He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Hodge also added 5 passes. Hodge has relatively good stats this season: 13.1ppg, 2.1rpg and 6.3apg. He has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Ivan Aska (201-F-90, college: Murray St., currently plays in South Korea) was not able to help ET Land Elephants (17-18) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance ET Land Elephants were defeated 81-70 in Anyang by the leading Anyang KGC. Aska was the top scorer with 26 points. He also added 9 rebounds. Aska has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg. Aska is another player who holds two passports: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #3. Gian Clavell (193-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Colorado St. to a 1-point victory against the San Diego State University (0-1) 78-77 in the NCAA last Saturday. Clavell scored 37 points (!!!), grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The Colorado State University has 3-2 conference record this season. This year Clavell has very high stats. He averages: 18.2ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.4apg and 1.8spg.

   #4. Emanuel Ubilla (188-PG-86, agency: Court Side, college: Fair Dickinson, currently plays in Hungary) was the major contributor in a ZTE KK's victory against the league outsider Vasas (3-13) 97-81 in the Hungarian A Division on Saturday night. Ubilla scored 18 points and added 7 assists in 33 minutes. Zalakeramia-ZTE KK (10-6) is placed sixth in the A Division. Ubilla has very impressive stats this year: 17.6ppg, 6.0rpg, 8.1apg and 1.1spg in 16 games he played so far. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Ubilla used to play for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rican league.

   #5. Alexis Colon (196-F/G, currently plays in Mexico) contributed to Panteras' victory against one of league's weakest teams Abejas (9-24) 92-84 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Thursday night. Colon scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 19 minutes. It was his first game for Panteras this season. His team is placed fourth in the LNBP. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.

   #6. Ruben Cotto (183-G-89, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alexis Colon and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Cotto contributed to Panteras' victory against one of league's weakest teams Abejas 92-84. He scored 7 points. Cotto has averaged so far 7.0ppg and 2.0apg.

   #7. Experienced Ricardo Melendez (179-SG-83, currently plays in Liga Americas) led his Panamanian team Caballos to a victory over the closely-ranked Los Leones 98-80 in the Liga Americas in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Melendez scored 23 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 33 minutes. Melendez has very impressive stats this year: 17.3ppg, 4.7rpg and 2.0apg in three games.

   #8. Carlos DeJesus (180-G, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to an easy victory against the Roberts Wesleyan College crushing them 96-76 in the NCAA2 last Friday. DeJesus recorded 17 points in 38 minutes. DeJesus has averaged so far 9.8ppg, 1.6rpg, 1.7apg and 1.4spg in 18 games. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Interesting that DeJesus has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #9. Angel Rivera (173-G-95, currently studies in the States) contributed to Stetson's victory against the University of North Florida 88-74 in the NCAA last Saturday. He scored 9 points and added 8 assists. Rivera has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 3.4rpg and 5.5apg. He holds both Puerto Rican and U.S. Virgin Islands passports.

   #10. Yito Alvarado (201-F-97, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the S.Florida in their game against the University of Cincinnati in the NCAA. Alvarado cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points. His team was crushed by 41 points 94-53. This season Alvarado averages just 1.5ppg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Interesting that Alvarado has never played in Puerto Rico.

Duran's 27 points and 6 assists give him Player of the Week award - 31 minutes ago
27-year old guard Cliff Duran (191-G-89, agency: Paris Global Sports) had a great game in the last week for Mayaguez and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 9. He had the game-high 27 points adding five rebounds and six assists for Mayaguez in his team's victory, helping them to beat Arecibo (#6, 4-4) 89-81. Mayaguez is placed at 7th position in Puerto Rican league. Mayaguez is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to i...   [read more]

BSN Round 9: Leones beat Vaqueros by three after a very close game - 1 day ago
The most exciting game of round 9 in the BSN took place in Bayamon. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Vaqueros (2-6) to sixth ranked Leones (5-4) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Leones made 34-of-45 free shots (75.6 percent) during the game, while Vaqueros only scored ten points from the stripe. Damion James gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN - 2 days ago
American Damion James (201-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for Fajardo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 8. The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team beat Guayama (#10, 2-7) 81-70. Fajardo maintains the 6th position in Puerto Rican BSN.
