Ramon Clemente

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina). He led Ferrocarril to a victory over the third-ranked Instituto (22-14) 74-60 in the Argentinian LigaA in Tuesday night's game. Clemente was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds. Clemente also added 3 assists and 3 steals in 33 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Sur. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (22-11) is placed second. It's Clemente's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 14.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 64.9%(135-208), 3FGP: 42.3% and FT: 80.6% in 32 games he played so far. Clemente has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. He is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. Clemente used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

Carlos Rivera

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Liga Americas). He contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked La Union (0-1) crushing them 93-72 in the LNBP last Friday. Rivera recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (1-0) is placed first in the LNBP. There are only two games left until the end of the LNBP Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. This season Rivera has relatively solid stats: 14.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 64.9%(135-208), 3FGP: 42.3% and FT: 80.6%. Former Atleticos de San German starter played for the Puerto Rican national team in 2015.

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Argentina). He could not help San Lorenzo (25-10) in their last game. Despite Diaz's good performance the first-placed San Lorenzo (25-10) lost 82-91 at home to the lower-ranked (#3) Instituto in the Sur group. He scored 12 points in 21 minutes. Diaz has reliable stats this year: 11.0ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 62.3%(66-106), 3FGP: 34.4% and FT: 88.9% in 24 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Georgian and Puerto Rican. Ex-Capitanes de Arecibo player is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

Shabazz Napier

   #4. Point guard Shabazz Napier (185-91, college: Connecticut, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the Orlando Magic (21-38) 112-103 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. Napier scored 10 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 6 assists. The Portland Trail Blazers have 24-32 record this season. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This year Napier averages: 4.0ppg and 1.2apg. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Napier is also Puerto Rican national team player. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #5. International swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Shabazz Napier and both played together in the last NBA game. Harkless helped Portland Trail Blazers win their game against the Orlando Magic (21-38) 112-103. He scored 12 points, had 6 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 38 minutes. Harkless' stats this year are: 10.7ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.2spg in 52 games. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team. Apparently he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #6. Shooting guard Javier Mojica (190-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Uruguay) was not able to help Defensor (4-8) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Mojica's good performance Defensor (#7) was edged 82-80 in a derby game by the higher-ranked Bigua (#4) in the Promocional 1 group. He scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Second Stage already ended. Mojica's stats this season are: 12.9ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.9apg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Mojica is a former international player as he played for the Puerto Rican senior team two years ago. He used to play for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

Alex Abreu

   #7. International point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in Liga Americas) helped his Venezuelan team Guaros edge the closely-ranked Soles (0-1) 88-86 in the Liga Americas in Friday night's game. Abreu recorded 10 points and added 3 assists in only 13 minutes. Guaros de Lara (1-0) is placed second in group E. There are only two games left until the end of the Liga Americas Second Stage. So now every game is very crucial. This year Abreu's overall stats are: 9.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 4.5apg and 2.0spg in four games. He is also Puerto Rican national team player.

   #8. Guard Rasham Suarez (190-92, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Baltic League) was not able to secure a victory for Rapla (8-4) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Suarez's good performance Rapla (#3) was defeated 87-81 on the road by the second-ranked Valmiera in the group A of Baltic League. He scored 11 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls. Suarez's total stats this season are: 9.6ppg, 4.9rpg and 2.8apg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team back in 2010.

William Orozco

   #9. International forward William Orozco (201-85, also represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Mexico) helped Garzas win their game against the closely-ranked Barreteros (17-19) crushing them 98-75 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Saturday night. Orozco had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 11 rebounds in 31 minutes. Garzas de Plata Hidalgo (22-14) is placed fourth in the LNBP. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Orozco averaged so far 10.6ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.7apg in 15 games. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team.

   #10. Guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy, currently plays in Uruguay) couldn't help Bigua (6-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Bigua (#4) lost 57-69 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#5) Malvin in the Promocional 1 group. Chaney was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. The Second Stage already ended. Chaney averaged so far 12.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.8apg, 1.1bpg and 1.5spg in 20 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Chaney is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster. He used to play for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rican league.

   #11. Former international forward Kevin Young (203-90, college: Kansas, currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help CA Platense in their game against Alianza Viedma in the Argentinian TNA (second division), despite his very good performance in Tuesday night's game. Young was the top scorer with 21 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 27 minutes. But his team lost 90-101. Young has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg and 7.0rpg in two games. Young used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago.

   #12. International swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena, currently plays in Mexico) couldn't help Toros in their game against Panteras in the Mexican LNBP (second division). Despite his good performance last Saturday He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Franklin averaged so far 10.3ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.5apg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Franklin is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #13. Former international point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alex Franklin. But that was another game of his team in Mexican LNBP which we would like to mention. Pagan helped Toros win their game against the closely-ranked Panteras 71-59. He recorded 8 points and added 4 passes in 30 minutes. This year Pagan's total stats are: 7.8ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.3apg in 32 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Pagan used to play for the Puerto Rican national team fifteen years ago. He played also for Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rican league.

   #14. Former U16 international guard Eliel Gonzalez (188-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped N.Carolina A&T win their game against the North Carolina A&T State University 106-95 in a derby game in the NCAA last Monday. He recorded 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 53 minutes. Gonzalez has averaged so far 9.2ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.6apg in 23 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U16 national team back in 2011.

   #15. U18 international guard Jorge Pacheco (185-98, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the Liberty in their game against the Winthrop University in the NCAA, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. He scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 29 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 17 points 84-67. Pacheco has averaged so far 8.2ppg, 3.0rpg and 2.5apg in 30 games. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican U18 national team.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Ivan Aska (201-F-90, college: Murray St., currently plays in South Korea) was the major contributor in an ET Land Elephants' victory against the closely-ranked Mobis Phoebus (22-20) 78-59 in the South Korean KBL in Saturday night's game. Aska recorded 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Inchon ET Land Elephants (20-23) are placed sixth in the KBL. Aska has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.3apg. Aska has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Gian Clavell (193-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Colorado St. to a victory against the University of New Mexico (9-4) 68-56 in the NCAA on Tuesday night. Clavell scored 24 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The Colorado State University has a solid 10-4 conference record this season. There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Clavell has very high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.6apg and 1.7spg.

   #3. Carlos DeJesus (180-G, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to an easy victory against the Roberts Wesleyan College crushing them 105-81 in the NCAA2 in Monday night's game. DeJesus scored 24 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals. The Bridgeport University has quite an impressive 10-3 record this season. His team will play only one more game in the NCAA2 Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. DeJesus has averaged so far 9.7ppg, 1.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Interesting that DeJesus has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #4. Ruben Cotto (183-G-89, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Mexico). Cotto could not help Panteras (19-17) to beat Toros (22-14). He recorded 6 points and added 3 passes. Panteras was defeated 71-59 at home by the higher-ranked Toros (#3). It was Panteras' third consecutive loss in a row. Cotto has averaged so far 6.6ppg and 2.3apg.

   #5. Alexis Colon (196-F/G, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ruben Cotto and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Colon was not able to help Panteras in their game against Toros (22-14). He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Colon recorded only 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks in 18 minutes. Panteras lost 59-71 on their home court in Aguascalientes to the higher-ranked (#3) Toros. Colon has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.5apg in eight games he played so far.

   #6. Kevin Maura (173-PG, currently studies in the States) contributed to UMBC's victory against the University of Massachusetts - Lowell 108-102 in the NCAA last Saturday. He scored 7 points and added 10 passes in 26 minutes. Maura has averaged so far 8.1ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.3apg and 1.8spg in 26 games.

   #7. Angel Rivera (173-G-95, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the one of league's weakest teams Stetson in their game against the Florida Gulf Coast University in the NCAA. He recorded 9 points and added 3 assists. His team was defeated 80-70. Rivera has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 3.2rpg and 5.4apg. He has both Puerto Rican and U.S. Virgin Islands nationalities.

   #8. Michael Sanchez (173-PG, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to a Concord University's victory against the Notre Dame College, OH 95-87 in the NCAA2 in Saturday night's game. Sanchez recorded 12 points in 32 minutes. Sanchez averaged so far 10.7ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.6apg and 1.3spg in 24 games.

   #9. Andrew Rodriguez (188-G, currently plays in NAIA) managed to help St.Andrews University in a victory against the Milligan College 88-76 in the AAC in Wednesday night's game. He scored only 3 points in 9 minutes on the court. It was his first game for St.Andrews University this season.

   #10. Jorge Perez-Laham (185-G-95, currently plays in NCAA2) helped William Jewell College win their game against the Rockhurst University 84-80 in the NCAA2 on Thursday night. Perez-Laham scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 34 minutes. Perez-Laham averaged so far 14.7ppg, 3.9rpg, 3.9apg and 1.4spg in 23 games.

27-year old guard Cliff Duran (191-G-89, agency: Paris Global Sports) had a great game in the last week for Mayaguez and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 9. He had the game-high 27 points adding five rebounds and six assists for Mayaguez in his team's victory, helping them to beat Arecibo (#6, 4-4) 89-81. BSN Round 9: Leones beat Vaqueros by three after a very close game - 1 day ago
The most exciting game of round 9 in the BSN took place in Bayamon. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Vaqueros (2-6) to sixth ranked Leones (5-4) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Leones made 34-of-45 free shots (75.6 percent) during the game, while Vaqueros only scored ten points from the stripe. Damion James gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN - 2 days ago
American Damion James (201-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for Fajardo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 8. The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team beat Guayama (#10, 2-7) 81-70. Fajardo maintains the 6th position in Puerto Rican BSN.
