   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena, currently plays in Mexico). He led Toros to a victory over the league leader Fuerza Regia (32-4) 81-71 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Wednesday. Franklin was MVP of the game. He scored 25 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Toros de Nuevo Laredo (22-14) is placed third in the LNBP. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Franklin has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 58.3%(28-48), 3FGP: 27.6% and FT: 57.7%. He has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. Franklin is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

Maurice Harkless

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA). Harkless contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the Brooklyn Nets (11-53) 130-116 in the NBA on Saturday night. He scored 18 points and added 3 assists in 30 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have 28-34 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Harkless has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.1apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 55.5%(193-348), 3FGP: 35.9% and FT: 63.2% in 58 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless is in the roster of the Puerto Rican senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

Ramon Clemente

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina). Clemente was the major contributor in Ferrocarril's victory against the ninth-ranked Boca Juniors (12-28) 71-70 in a derby game in the Argentinian LigaA in Tuesday night's game. He recorded 17 points. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (24-13) is placed second in Sur group. Clemente has reliable stats this season: 13.8ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 63.9%(145-227), 3FGP: 40.7% and FT: 79.8%. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Clemente is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #4. An experienced point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Mexico) helped Fuerza Regia win their game against the closely-ranked Toros (22-14) 84-72 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Sunday. Rivera scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 23 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (32-4) is placed first in the LNBP. Rivera's stats this year are: 12.5ppg, 2.9rpg, 4.9apg and 1.1spg in 36 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015.

   #5. Former international point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alex Franklin and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Pagan helped Toros win their game against the league leader Fuerza Regia (32-4) 81-71. He scored 16 points and added 6 assists. This season Pagan averages: 8.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.3apg. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Pagan used to play for the Puerto Rican national team fifteen years ago. He played also for Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rican league.

   #6. Point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in Venezuela) could not help Guaros (0-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Abreu's good performance the fourth-placed Guaros (0-2) was edged 90-89 on the road by the higher-ranked Guaiqueries (#3) in the Western Conference. He scored 10 points and added 3 assists. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Abreu's overall stats this year are: 6.5ppg and 2.0apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

   #7. International guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Liga Americas) helped his Argentinian team San Lorenzo win their game against the leader Hebraica (1-2) 100-84 in the Liga Americas last Friday. Diaz recorded 9 points and added 6 passes in 20 minutes. San Lorenzo de Almagra (1-2) is placed fourth in group F. The Second Stage already ended in the Liga Americas. It's Diaz's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 6.8ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.8apg in six games. Diaz is also Puerto Rican national team player.

   #8. Forward Kevin Young (203-90, college: Kansas, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help CA Platense (14-14) in their last game. Despite Young's very good performance CA Platense (#4) lost 85-91 in Trelew to the higher-ranked (#3) Huracan in the Center South group. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 13 rebounds. Young also added 4 assists in 27 minutes. The Regular Season already ended. Young has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.4ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg in five games. Young used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015.

   #9. International point guard Jose Juan Barea (183-84, college: Northeastern, currently plays in NBA) helped Dallas Mavericks win their game against the Brooklyn Nets (11-53) 105-96 in the NBA last Friday. He scored 9 points and added 3 assists. The Dallas Mavericks have 28-36 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This season Barea has very high stats. He averages: 12.0ppg, 2.8rpg and 4.8apg. Barea is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team.

   #10. Guard Rasham Suarez (190-92, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Estonia) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Rapla (13-9) in their last game. Despite his good performance Rapla was edged 80-77 at home by the second-ranked Kalev/Cramo. Suarez scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 19 minutes. This year Suarez's total stats are: 9.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg in 19 games. He is a former U18 international player as seven years ago he still played for the Puerto Rican national team.

   #11. International forward William Orozco (201-85, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Mexico) helped Garzas win their game against the closely-ranked Soles 88-85 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) in Wednesday night's game. Orozco scored 13 points. Orozco's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.7apg. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team.

   #12. Former international shooting guard Javier Mojica (190-84, also represented by Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Uruguay) managed to help Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo in a victory against the second-ranked Atletico Welcome crushing them 86-56 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB last Tuesday. Mojica recorded 5 points in 20 minutes. Mojica averaged so far 10.8ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.8apg in nine games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Mojica used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015. He played also for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

   #13. International point guard Shabazz Napier (185-91, college: Connecticut, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Maurice Harkless. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Napier helped Portland Trail Blazers win their game against the Philadelphia 76ers 114-108. He scored only 2 points and added 6 passes. Napier has averaged so far 3.7ppg, 1.1rpg and 1.4apg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Napier is also Puerto Rican national team player. Apparently he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #14. Former U16 international guard Eliel Gonzalez (188-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the N.Carolina A&T in their game against the Univ. of Maryland Eastern Shore in the NCAA, despite his very good performance in Monday night's game. Gonzalez scored 13 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 39 minutes. But his team lost 67-74. Gonzalez averaged so far 10.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.9apg in 27 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U16 national team back in 2011.

   #15. International power forward Chris Gaston (201-89, college: Fordham, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Hapoel Migdal Haemek in their game against Galil Elion in the Israeli National League (second division). Despite his very good performance last Tuesday Gaston was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 4 rebounds. This season Gaston has very high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.1apg, 1.4bpg and 1.2spg. Gaston holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican national team. Gaston used to play for Ponce in Puerto Rican league.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) led his French team ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to a victory over the fourth-ranked Aris (8-6) 81-67 in the Basketball Champions League in Tuesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Hodge scored 19 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals in 29 minutes. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-4) is placed second in group C. It's Hodge's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 13.1ppg, 2.7rpg and 5.4apg in 16 games he played so far. Hodge has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Emanuel Ubilla (188-PG-86, agency: Court Side, college: Fair Dickinson, currently plays in Hungary) was the main contributor in a ZTE KK's victory against the tenth-ranked KTE-Duna (8-13) 85-80 in the Hungarian A Division on Saturday night. Ubilla was the best player in that game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and making 15 passes. Ubilla also added and 4 steals. Zalakeramia-ZTE KK (13-8) is placed fifth in the A Division. It's Ubilla's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Ubilla averages: 16.7ppg, 5.3rpg, 8.2apg and 1.4spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Ubilla used to play for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rican league.

   #3. Gian Clavell (193-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Colorado St. (12-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Colorado St. lost 72-85 at home to the The University of Nevada. Clavell recorded 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 40 minutes. His team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Clavell has very impressive stats this year: 19.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.7apg and 1.7spg in 23 games.

   #4. Experienced Rafael Perez (193-G/F-82, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Venezuela) was not able to help Marinos (0-2) in their last game. Despite Perez's very good performance the fourth-placed Marinos (0-2) was edged 84-81 on the road by the second-ranked Gigantes in the Eastern Conference. He was the second best scorer with 19 points in 36 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Perez averaged so far 14.0ppg in two games. He has both Puerto Rican and Venezuelan nationalities.

   #5. Ivan Aska (201-F-90, college: Murray St., currently plays in South Korea) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams ET Land Elephants (24-24) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance ET Land Elephants were edged 65-63 in Ulsan by the higher-ranked Mobis Phoebus (#4). Aska recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 17 rebounds. Aska's stats this season are: 14.8ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.3apg. He also holds two passports: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #6. Carlos DeJesus (180-G, currently plays in NCAA2) couldn't help the one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Bridgeport University (12-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance the Bridgeport University was defeated 89-82 in Rockville Centre by the Molloy College. DeJesus scored 10 points. DeJesus has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 1.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.2spg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Interesting that DeJesus has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #7. Jose Martinez (200-F, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the San Diego in their game against the University of Portland in the NCAA. He scored 5 points and blocked 2 blocks. His team was defeated 60-55. This season Martinez averages only 2.6ppg.

   #8. TreVon Hughes (183-PG-87, college: Wisconsin, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Duzce Belediye in their game against Acibadem in the Turkish TBL (second division). Despite his very good performance in Friday night's game He was the top scorer with 14 points. Hughes also added 6 rebounds, passed 6 assists and added 2 blocks. Hughes averaged so far 14.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 4.5apg and 2.1spg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Interesting that Hughes has never played in Puerto Rico.

James' double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 1 day ago
33-year old center Shawn James (208-C-83) had a great game in the last week for second-ranked Fajardo and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 24. He had a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Quebradillas (#3, 12-8) 91-80. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Defending champion Capitanes de Arecibo (BSN) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old American forward Coty Clarke (201-105kg-92, college: Arkansas, agency: BeoBasket). It is actually his comeback to Capitanes as he has played here before. Clarke He moved there from Unics in Russian VTB league where he started the season. What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. The most impressive performance of 24th round was 17 points by Kevin Young of Mayaguez. Mayaguez - Humacao 83-85 A very interesting game took place in Mayaguez. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 10th ranked Indios (7-13) to ninth ranked Caciques (9-13) 85-83 on Thursday evening.
