   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA). Harkless could not help the Portland Trail Blazers (30-36) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (30-36) were edged 125-124 on the road by the Washington Wizards. Harkless recorded 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Harkless has relatively good stats this season: 10.5ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.1apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 55.5%(201-362), 3FGP: 35.8% and FT: 60.8%. He has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Argentina). Diaz led San Lorenzo to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked La Union (9-23) crushing them 88-64 in the Argentinian LigaA on Saturday night. He scored 12 points in 25 minutes. San Lorenzo de Almagra (27-12) is placed first in Sur group. It's Diaz's first season with the team. This year Diaz has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 60.3%(76-126), 3FGP: 34.3% and FT: 90.9%(40-44) in 28 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Georgian and Puerto Rican. Ex-Capitanes de Arecibo player is in the roster of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

Ramon Clemente

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina). Clemente contributed to Ferrocarril's victory against the seventh-ranked Quilmes MP (18-20) 76-69 in the Argentinian LigaA in Friday night's game. He scored 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (26-14) is placed second in Sur group. Clemente has reliable stats this season: 13.3ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 62.9%(149-237), 3FGP: 39.6% and FT: 78.7%. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Clemente is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #4. Point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in Liga Americas) contributed to Guaros' victory against the closely-ranked Leones (2-1) 100-87 in the Liga Americas on Friday night. Abreu recorded 10 points (made all of his eight free throws). Guaros de Lara (2-1) is placed second in group E. This season Abreu averages: 8.7ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.7apg and 1.4spg. He is also Puerto Rican national team player.

   #5. International swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena, currently plays in Mexico) was not able to help Toros (22-14) in their last game. Despite Franklin's good performance Toros lost 58-73 in Monterrey to the leading Fuerza Regia. He was the top scorer with 13 points. Franklin also added 3 passes in 26 minutes. They ended the series of six consecutive victories. Franklin's stats this year are: 10.8ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.8apg in 10 games. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Franklin plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #6. An experienced point guard Jose Juan Barea (183-84, college: Northeastern, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the Dallas Mavericks (29-39) in their last game on Friday. Despite Barea's good performance the Dallas Mavericks (29-39) were crushed 116-74 in Philadelphia by the 76ers. He was the second best scorer with 11 points. Barea also added 4 passes. Barea's stats this season are: 11.0ppg, 2.6rpg and 5.2apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Shabazz Napier (185-91, college: Connecticut, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Maurice Harkless. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Napier couldn't help the Portland Trail Blazers (30-36) in their last game. Despite his good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (30-36) were crushed 100-77 in New Orleans by the Pelicans. Napier was the second best scorer with 10 points. He also added 3 assists in 19 minutes. This year Napier's overall stats are: 3.8ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.4apg in 40 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Napier is also Puerto Rican national team player. Apparently he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #8. Point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in France) couldn't help Cholet Basket (8-15) in their game against Sluc Nancy (5-17) in the French ProA. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night Rodriguez was the second best scorer with 15 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Rodriguez's total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.8apg and 1.2spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team back in 2010.

   #9. Former international point guard Wilfredo Pagan (184-76, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alex Franklin and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Pagan couldn't help Toros (22-14) in their game against Fuerza Regia (32-4). He scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 30 minutes. Toros lost 58-73 in Monterrey to the leading Fuerza Regia. This year Pagan's total stats are: 7.9ppg, 2.1rpg and 3.2apg in 38 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Pagan used to play for the Puerto Rican national team fifteen years ago. He played also for Brujos de Guayama in Puerto Rican league.

   #10. Shooting guard Javier Mojica (190-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Uruguay) managed to help Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo to win against the second-ranked Atletico Welcome (12-3) 77-76 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB last Friday. Mojica scored only 2 points. Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo (6-8) is placed seventh in Promocional 1 group. Mojica averaged so far 10.8ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.8apg. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Mojica is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

   #11. Former international point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Liga Americas) couldn't help Fuerza Regia in their game against Weber Bahia in the LNBP. Rivera cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points in 23 minutes. His team lost 65-74. Rivera averaged so far 10.8ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.8apg in nine games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Kevin Young (203-90, college: Kansas, currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help CA Platense in their game against Gimnasia LP in the Argentinian TNA (second division). Despite his good performance in Thursday night's game Young scored 10 points, had 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Young has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg. Young used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015.

   #13. International forward William Orozco (201-85, also represented by Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Mexico) couldn't help Garzas in their game against Soles in the Mexican LNBP (second division). He scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. His team was crushed by 32 points 100-68. Orozco averaged so far 10.5ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.7apg in 21 games. He is also Puerto Rican national team player.

   #14. U18 international guard Jorge Pacheco (185-98, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Liberty's victory against the Norfolk State University 73-64 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 1 in Monday night's game. He recorded 7 points in 36 minutes. Pacheco has averaged so far 8.0ppg, 3.0rpg and 2.5apg in 33 games. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican U18 national team.

   #15. Former U16 international power forward Emanuel Pellot (206-93, college: Florida A&M, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to a Villa San Martin's victory against the fifth-ranked Independiente BBC 88-76 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) last Tuesday. Pellot scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Pellot has averaged so far 3.8ppg and 4.5rpg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U16 national team eight years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in France) led ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Entente Orleans 45 (6-17) 82-78 in the French ProA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Hodge scored 20 points and added 3 assists in 28 minutes. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (12-11) is placed eighth in the ProA. Hodge has relatively good stats this year: 13.4ppg, 2.0rpg and 5.9apg in 23 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Emanuel Ubilla (188-PG-86, agency: Court Side, college: Fair Dickinson, currently plays in Hungary) contributed to a ZTE KK's victory against the closely-ranked MAFC (7-11) 86-80 in the Hungarian A Division last Thursday. Ubilla had a double-double by scoring 16 points and making 11 passes. He also added 5 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 40 minutes. Zalakeramia-ZTE KK (14-9) is placed sixth in the A Division. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Ubilla has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.4ppg, 5.3rpg, 8.2apg and 1.3spg in 23 games. Ubilla is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. He used to play for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rican league.

   #3. Experienced Rafael Perez (193-G/F-82, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Venezuela) was the major contributor in Marinos' victory against the third-ranked Guaiqueries (4-3) 68-66 in the Venezuelan LPB in Sunday night's game. Perez recorded 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 33 minutes. Marinos de Anzoategui (1-4) is placed fifth in Eastern Conference. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Perez's stats this year are: 11.0ppg and 2.0rpg in five games. He has both Puerto Rican and Venezuelan nationalities.

   #4. Gian Clavell (193-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Colorado St. (13-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Clavell's very good performance the Colorado St. was defeated 79-71 at home by the The University of Nevada. He scored 30 points (!!!) and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. This season Clavell has very high stats. He averages: 20.4ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.8apg and 2.0spg.

   #5. Kevin Maura (173-PG, currently studies in the States) helped UMBC win their game against the Fairfield University (13-7) 88-83 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 1 on Wednesday night. Maura recorded 15 points and added 5 assists (made all of his six free throws). The University of Maryland -Baltimore County has 9-7 conference record this season. The National Tournament Round 1 already ended in the NCAA. Maura has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.1apg and 1.8spg.

   #6. TreVon Hughes (183-PG-87, college: Wisconsin, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to help Duzce Belediye (8-19) in their last game on Friday. Despite Hughes' good performance Duzce Belediye was badly defeated 88-69 on the road by the much higher-ranked Acibadem (#6). He was the top scorer with 14 points. Hughes also added 6 rebounds, passed 6 assists and added 2 blocks. Hughes averaged so far 14.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 4.5apg and 2.1spg. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Interesting that Hughes has never played in Puerto Rico.

James' double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 11 hours ago
33-year old center Shawn James (208-C-83) had a great game in the last week for second-ranked Fajardo and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 24. He had a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Quebradillas (#3, 12-8) 91-80. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Defending champion Capitanes de Arecibo (BSN) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old American forward Coty Clarke (201-105kg-92, college: Arkansas, agency: BeoBasket). It is actually his comeback to Capitanes as he has played here before. Clarke He moved there from Unics in Russian VTB league where he started the season. What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. The most impressive performance of 24th round was 17 points by Kevin Young of Mayaguez. Mayaguez - Humacao 83-85 A very interesting game took place in Mayaguez. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 10th ranked Indios (7-13) to ninth ranked Caciques (9-13) 85-83 on Thursday evening.
