Here is the weekly review of the top performing Puerto Rican players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international point guard Jose Juan Barea (183-84, college: Northeastern, currently plays in NBA). Barea was the major contributor in a Dallas Mavericks' victory against the Brooklyn Nets (15-57) 111-104 in the NBA last Sunday. He scored 20 points and added 7 passes. The Dallas Mavericks have 31-40 record this season. Barea has relatively good stats this year: 10.8ppg, 2.5rpg, 5.2apg, 2FGP: 46.8%, 3FGP: 32.7% and FT: 88.1%. He is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Argentina). Diaz led San Lorenzo to a victory against the third-ranked Regatas Corrientes (25-15) 99-86 in the Argentinian LigaA in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Sur. San Lorenzo de Almagra (28-12) is placed first. It's Diaz's first season with the team. This year Diaz has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 2.1rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 61.2%(79-129), 3FGP: 34.2% and FT: 91.7%(44-48). He has a dual citizenship: Georgian and Puerto Rican. Ex-Capitanes de Arecibo player is in the roster of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in Venezuela). Abreu contributed to Guaros' victory against the fourth-ranked Marinos (3-5) 91-86 in the Venezuelan LPB on Thursday night. He scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Guaros de Lara (2-4) is placed fourth in Western Conference. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Abreu's overall stats this year are: 6.7ppg, 2.3apg, 2FGP: 46.7%, 3FGP: 44.4%. Ex-Coamo player is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

Maurice Harkless

   #4. Swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Atlanta Hawks (37-35) 113-97 in the NBA in Saturday night's game. He scored 12 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 30 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have 33-37 record this season. Harkless has reliable stats this year: 10.2ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg in 66 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless is also Puerto Rican national team player. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #5. Former international point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP, currently plays in Liga Americas) could not help Fuerza Regia (3-0) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Rivera's good performance the league leader Fuerza Regia was crushed 90-68 on the road by the lower-ranked Leones (#3). He recorded 10 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Rivera's stats this season are: 10.2ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team three years ago.

Power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Ferrocarril's victory against the seventh-ranked Quilmes MP (18-21) 76-69 in the Argentinian LigaA on Friday night. Clemente scored 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (26-15) is placed second in Sur group. Clemente averaged so far 13.1ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.4apg in 40 games. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Clemente is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #7. Former international forward Kevin Young (203-90, college: Kansas, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help CA Platense (14-16) in their last game. Despite Young's very good performance the fourth-placed CA Platense (14-16) was edged 80-78 in Concepcion de Urug. by the second-ranked Parque Sur in the Center South group. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. Young also added and 3 steals in 34 minutes. It was CA Platense's fourth consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Young has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.6ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.4spg in seven games. Young used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago.

   #8. Guard Jorge Pacheco (185-98, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Liberty's victory against the Samford University (8-10) 66-58 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 2 on Monday night. He scored 13 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 6 assists. The Liberty University has quite an impressive 14-4 conference record this season. The National Tournament Round 2 already ended in the NCAA. Pacheco's overall stats this season are: 8.1ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.6apg. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican U18 national team.

Carlos Rivera

   #9. Former international point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Liga Americas) is a teammate of previously mentioned Filiberto Rivera. But that was another game of his team in LNBP which we would like to mention. Rivera was not able to secure a victory for Fuerza Regia (3-0) in their game against Weber Bahia (2-1). He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Rivera recorded only 2 points in 23 minutes. The league leader Fuerza Regia lost 65-74 at home to the second-ranked Weber Bahia. This year Rivera's overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.6apg in 34 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team two years ago.

   #10. Point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Slovakia) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Iskra Svit (21-18) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Iskra Svit was edged 94-92 on their home court in Svit by the higher-ranked Rieker KN (#5). Gonzalez scored 10 points and added 3 assists. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Gonzalez averaged so far 12.4ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.0apg and 1.7spg. Worth to mention Gonzalez played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

   #11. Former U18 international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in France) couldn't help Cholet Basket in their game against Paris-Levallois in the French ProA. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Rodriguez scored only 2 points and added 3 assists. His team was edged 75-74. Rodriguez's total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.8apg and 1.2spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team seven years ago.

   #12. Former U18 international forward Arnaldo Toro (206-97, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the G.Washington in their game against the University of Illinois-Chicago in the NCAA National Tournament Round 2. Toro scored 9 points in only 10 minutes. His team lost 71-80. This year Toro's total stats are: 4.6ppg and 4.3rpg in 35 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team back in 2014.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in France) led ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to a victory over the league outsider Entente Orleans 45 (6-17) 82-78 in the French ProA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Hodge scored 20 points and added 3 assists in 28 minutes. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (12-11) is placed eighth in the ProA. Hodge has relatively good stats this year: 13.4ppg, 2.0rpg and 5.9apg in 23 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Emanuel Ubilla (188-PG-86, agency: Court Side, college: Fair Dickinson, currently plays in Hungary) was the major contributor in a ZTE KK's victory against the 12th-ranked Jaszberenyi (7-18) crushing them 119-75 in the Hungarian A Division on Thursday night. Ubilla recorded 26 points (!!!), 8 assists and 3 steals in 25 minutes. Zalakeramia-ZTE KK (16-9) is placed fifth in the A Division. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Ubilla has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 8.1apg and 1.3spg in 25 games. Ubilla is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. He used to play for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rican league.

   #3. Experienced Rafael Perez (193-G/F-82, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Venezuela) contributed to Marinos' victory against the second-ranked Trotamundos (6-4) 88-84 in the Venezuelan LPB last Saturday. Perez scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 32 minutes. Marinos de Anzoategui (3-5) is placed fourth in Eastern Conference. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Perez has reliable stats this year: 10.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.3apg in eight games. He has both Puerto Rican and Venezuelan nationalities.

   #4. Gian Clavell (193-G-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Colorado St. (13-6) in their last game on Monday. Despite Clavell's very good performance the Colorado St. was badly defeated 81-63 on the road by the Cal State - Bakersfield. He scored 21 points, had 8 rebounds and made 3 blocks. The National Tournament Round 2 already ended in the NCAA. This season Clavell has very high stats. He averages: 20.4ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.7apg and 2.0spg.

   #5. Kevin Maura (173-PG, currently studies in the States) contributed to UMBC's victory against the St.Francis University (PA) (13-5) 87-79 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 2 on Saturday night. Maura scored 14 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 33 minutes. The University of Maryland -Baltimore County has 9-7 conference record this season. The National Tournament Round 2 already ended in the NCAA. This year Maura's total stats are: 8.5ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.2apg and 1.8spg in 30 games.

   #6. Angel Garcia (173-PG, currently plays in NAIA) was not able to help the Life University in their game against the Texas Wesleyan University in the NAIA. Garcia cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points. His team was defeated 86-76 in the NAIA. This season Garcia averages just 0.7ppg.

   #7. TreVon Hughes (183-PG-87, college: Wisconsin, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a 2-point Duzce Belediye's victory against the closely-ranked Gelisim 75-73 in the Turkish TBL (second division) in Wednesday night's game. He scored 22 points, grabbed 9 boards, passed 3 assists and added 3 steals in 37 minutes. Hughes has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg, 4.9rpg, 4.4apg and 2.2spg in 25 games. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Apparently Hughes has never played in Puerto Rico.

BSN Round 9: Leones beat Vaqueros by three after a very close game - 52 minutes ago
The most exciting game of round 9 in the BSN took place in Bayamon. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Vaqueros (2-6) to sixth ranked Leones (5-4) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Leones made 34-of-45 free shots (75.6 percent) during the game, while Vaqueros only scored ten points from the stripe. Leones forced 20 Vaqueros turnovers. 36 personal fouls committed by Vaqueros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Dominican...   [read more]

Damion James gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN - 1 day ago
American Damion James (201-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for Fajardo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 8. The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team beat Guayama (#10, 2-7) 81-70. Fajardo maintains the 6th position in Puerto Rican BSN. BSN Round 8: Santeros beat Capitanes in the most crucial game of the week - 2 days ago
It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in BSN, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Arecibo. First ranked Santeros faced 4th ranked Capitanes. Guests from Coamo (7-1) defeated host Capitanes (4-3) 82-67.
