   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Argentina). Diaz led San Lorenzo to a victory over the sixth-ranked Quimsa (23-23) 90-84 in the Argentinian LigaA last Thursday. He was MVP of the game. Diaz scored 18 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists. San Lorenzo de Almagra (29-13) is placed first in Sur group. Diaz has relatively good stats this season: 10.9ppg, 2.1rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 61.2%(82-134), 3FGP: 35.0% and FT: 90.7%(49-54). He has a dual citizenship: Georgian and Puerto Rican. Ex-Capitanes de Arecibo player is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international shooting guard Javier Mojica (190-84, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Cent.Conn.St., currently plays in Uruguay). Mojica contributed to Defensor's victory against the second-ranked U Universitario (10-4) 89-79 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB on Thursday night. He scored 21 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 32 minutes. Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo (6-8) is placed seventh in Promocional 1 group. This year Mojica has relatively solid stats: 12.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.0apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 42.5%, 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 78.1% in 11 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Mojica played for the Puerto Rican national team in 2015. He used to play for Fajardo in Puerto Rican league.

Maurice Harkless

   #3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA). Harkless contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the Houston Rockets (51-25) 117-107 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 3 blocks. The Portland Trail Blazers have 37-37 record this season. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Harkless has reliable stats this season: 10.1ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.2apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 56.2%(223-397), 3FGP: 34.8% and FT: 63.4%. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Harkless is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #4. Point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP, currently plays in Mexico) was the main contributor in a Fuerza Regia's victory against the closely-ranked Soles (23-13) 66-49 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Saturday night. Rivera was the best player in that game. He scored 12 points and added 7 passes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (32-4) is placed first in the LNBP. This season Rivera averages: 5.2ppg and 2.8apg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2014.

   #5. International point guard Jose Juan Barea (183-84, college: Northeastern, currently plays in NBA) could not help the Dallas Mavericks (31-44) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance the Dallas Mavericks (31-44) were defeated 99-90 on the road by the Memphis Grizzlies. Barea scored 13 points and added 5 passes. Barea's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 2.3rpg and 5.4apg. He plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team.

Power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina) helped Ferrocarril win their game against the third-ranked Regatas Corrientes (26-16) 95-92 in the Argentinian LigaA on Saturday night. Clemente recorded 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 24 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Sur. Ferrocarril Oeste Capital Federal (27-16) is placed second. It's Clemente's first season with the team. His stats this year are: 12.9ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.4apg in 42 games. Clemente also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster. Clemente used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

   #7. International guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy, currently plays in Uruguay) was not able to help Bigua in their game against Malvin (7-7) in the Uruguayan LUB, despite his very good performance last Monday. He was the top scorer with 14 points in 31 minutes. But the fifth-placed Bigua (7-7) was edged 66-65 in a derby game by the higher-ranked (#4) Malvin in the Promocional 1 group. Chaney averaged so far 12.3ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.6apg and 1.5spg in 22 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Chaney is also Puerto Rican national team player. He used to play for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rican league.

Forward Kevin Young (203-90, college: Kansas, currently plays in Argentina) was the major contributor in a CA Platense's victory against the seventh-ranked La Union (9-27) 97-93 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) on Sunday night. Young scored 19 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Club Atletico Platense Florida (17-19) is placed fifth in Center South group. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Young averaged so far 15.0ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.4apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Puerto Rican national team back in 2015.

   #9. U18 international guard Jorge Pacheco (185-98, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the Liberty (14-4) in their game against the University of Maryland -Baltimore County (9-7) in the NCAA Quarter-Finals, despite his very good performance in Sunday night's game. Pacheco scored 23 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 36 minutes. But the Liberty lost 68-80 at home to the University of Maryland - County. This year Pacheco's overall stats are: 8.6ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.6apg in 35 games. He is also in the roster of the Puerto Rican U18 national team.

   #10. Point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Slovakia) helped Iskra Svit win their game against the closely-ranked Lucenec (18-22) 93-88 in the Slovakian SBL last Wednesday. He scored 9 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished 6 assists and stole 4 balls. BK Iskra Svit (22-18) is placed sixth in the SBL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Gonzalez averaged so far 12.2ppg, 3.5rpg, 5.1apg and 1.8spg. Worth to mention Gonzalez played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Puerto Rican National Team roster.

   #11. International point guard Shabazz Napier (185-91, college: Connecticut, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Maurice Harkless. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Napier helped Portland Trail Blazers win their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-100. He scored 6 points in only 14 minutes. This year Napier's total stats are: 3.5ppg and 1.3apg in 45 games. He holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Napier plays currently for the Puerto Rican national team. Apparently he has never played in Puerto Rico.

   #12. Former U18 international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in France) couldn't help Cholet Basket in their game against Pau-Lacq-Orthez in the French ProA. Rodriguez scored 8 points and added 3 passes in only 14 minutes. His team lost 69-76. Rodriguez has averaged so far 9.9ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.8apg and 1.2spg in 24 games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U18 national team back in 2010.

   #13. Former U16 international power forward Emanuel Pellot (206-93, college: Florida A&M, currently plays in Argentina) managed to help Club Atletico Villa San Martin in a victory against the seventh-ranked Asociacion Mitre Tucuman 87-80 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) in Saturday night's game. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 12 minutes. Pellot has averaged so far 2.4ppg and 3.9rpg in seven games. He used to play for the Puerto Rican U16 national team eight years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Puerto Rican passport but never been selected to any of Puerto Rican national teams:

   #1. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida, currently plays in France) could not help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (12-12) in their last game. Despite his very good performance ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket lost 74-82 on the road to the lower-ranked (#10) Le Mans. Hodge was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 4 passes in 28 minutes. It's Hodge's first season with the team. Hodge has relatively good stats this year: 13.7ppg, 2.0rpg and 5.8apg in 24 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican.

   #2. Emanuel Ubilla (188-PG-86, agency: Court Side, college: Fair Dickinson, currently plays in Hungary) led ZTE KK to a victory over the leader Atomeromu 97-90 in the Hungarian A Division last Sunday. Ubilla was the best player in that game. He scored 26 points (!!!), grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 45 minutes. Zalakeramia-ZTE KKis placed fifth in Places 1-5 group. It's Ubilla's first season with the team. Ubilla has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 8.2apg and 1.3spg in 26 games. Ubilla is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. He used to play for Atleticos de San German in Puerto Rican league.

   #3. Ivan Aska (201-F-90, college: Murray St., currently plays in Greece) contributed to a 3-point PAOK's victory against the eighth-ranked Promitheas (9-14) 78-75 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Aska scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 10 minutes. It was his first game for PAOK this season. His team is placed fourth in the A1. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Aska has both U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rican nationalities.

   #4. Nick Leon (181-PG-88, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Mexico) was not able to help Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (3-2) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance Halcones de Ciudad Obregon was defeated 107-98 in Hermosillo by the second-ranked Rayos de. Leon was the top scorer with 27 points. He also added 3 passes (made all of his eight free throws). But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Leon averaged so far 14.6ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.4apg.

   #5. Experienced Rafael Perez (193-G/F-82, agency: Paris Global Sports, currently plays in Venezuela) was not able to secure a victory for Marinos (4-6) in their game against Bucaneros (9-7) in the Venezuelan LPB. Perez scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Marinos (#4) was defeated 91-87 at home by the leading Bucaneros in the Eastern Conference. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Perez has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.2apg. He also holds two passports: Puerto Rican and Venezuelan.

   #6. Kevin Maura (173-PG, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to UMBC's victory against the Liberty University 80-68 in the NCAA Quarter-Finals on Sunday night. Maura scored 11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Maura has averaged so far 8.6ppg, 2.8rpg, 4.2apg and 1.8spg.

   #7. TreVon Hughes (183-PG-87, college: Wisconsin, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Duzce Belediye (10-20) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Hughes' very good performance Duzce Belediye was edged 66-64 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Samsun (#11). He was the top scorer with 16 points. Hughes also added 8 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 4 balls. This season Hughes has very high stats. He averages: 15.2ppg, 5.0rpg, 4.5apg and 2.2spg. Hughes holds both American and Puerto Rican passports. Interesting that he has never played in Puerto Rico.

BSN Round 9: Leones beat Vaqueros by three after a very close game - 53 minutes ago
The most exciting game of round 9 in the BSN took place in Bayamon. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Vaqueros (2-6) to sixth ranked Leones (5-4) 91-88 on Sunday evening. Leones made 34-of-45 free shots (75.6 percent) during the game, while Vaqueros only scored ten points from the stripe. American Damion James (201-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for Fajardo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 8. The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team beat Guayama (#10, 2-7) 81-70. Fajardo maintains the 6th position in Puerto Rican BSN. BSN Round 8: Santeros beat Capitanes in the most crucial game of the week - 2 days ago
It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in BSN, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Arecibo. First ranked Santeros faced 4th ranked Capitanes. Guests from Coamo (7-1) defeated host Capitanes (4-3) 82-67.
