Santeros de Aguada and Capitanes de Arecibo started the regular season with a 2-0 record during the first weekend of the 2017 BSN season.

Aguada defeated Mayaguez 73-70 and then Ponce 75-74. Against Mayaguez they came fron behind led by Chris Gaston who netted 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Guard Rigoberto Mendoza also helped by scoring 24 points with 10 boards in 35 minutes.

On Saturday, they edged Leones de Ponce 75-74 after dominating most of the game. Ponce came back by taking advantage of the many turnovers made by Aguada. Ponce had a couple of shots at the win in the final seconds. Rigoberto Mendoza and Chris Gaston had 17 each.

Arecibo dominated San German 87-77 on opening night and on Saturday edged Guayama 73-70. A balanced attack on offense and great determination on defense gave Arecibo both wins. David Huertas led the way in both wins and averages 25 points per game.

Fajardo has a 1-0 record after winning over Humacao 81-76. Carlos Arroyo had 21 points with 5 assists while Damion James added 20 points. Humacao had Brandon Costner with 17 and Raymond Cintron added 15.

Quebradillas is also 1-0 after dominating Bayamon 102-86 led by Michael Rosario (190-SG-90, college: Florida) who netted 35 points.

San German got their first win after beating Mayaguez 92-83. Isaac Sosa had 21 points in the win. San German is 1-1 while Mayaguez is 0-2.

Ponce has a 1-1 record after beating Guayama 99-80 and then lost in Aguada. Against Guayama Hakim Warrick scored 19 points, Victor Liz and Carlos Emory had 18 each. Carlos Rivera and Angel Daniel Vassallo are recovering from injuries.

Guayama is 0-2 and only two players average double figures led by import Eugene Phelps who has 18 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Transactions:

Cariduros de Fajardo sent Ansel Guzman to Humacao for Filiberto Rivera.

Humacao loaned Gaby Belardo to Leones de Ponce for this season.

Seventh-ranked Vaqueros (9-14) made lots of trouble for first ranked Santeros (17-4) in Bayamon on Monday. The visitors from Coamo managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72.
