Naturalized American Power forward Chris Gaston (201-PF-89) had an amazing evening in the last week for top-ranked Aguada, receiving a Usbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 1.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, while his team edged out Mayaguez (#11, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 73-70. It allowed Aguada to consolidate first place in the Puerto Rican BSN. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Aguada won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next week. In the team's last game Gaston had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Aguada and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Former Fordham University star has very solid stats this year. Gaston is in league's top in points (5th best: 20.5ppg), rebounds (6th best: 10.0rpg) and averages impressive 1.5bpg and 58.3% FGP.

The second best player in last week's games was another Aguada's star - 24-year old Dominican Rep. Rigoberto Mendoza (190-G-92). Mendoza had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for Aguada to edge Mayaguez (0-2) 73-70. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Mendoza is one of the most experienced players at Aguada and similarly like Chris Gaston has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.5ppg (#4). He also registered 9.5 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last week was American forward Devon Collier (203-PF-91) of Mayaguez (#11). Collier scored 17 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds (!!!). Despite Collier's great performance Mayaguez lost 70-73 to Aguada (#1, 2-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Collier has individually a great season in Puerto Rico. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 14.0rpg (#1 in league). Devon Collier has also Puerto Rican passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Donta Smith (201-SF-83) of Quebradillas - 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Michael Rosario (190-SG-90) of Quebradillas - 35 points and 2 assists
6. Hakim Warrick (206-F/C-82) of Ponce - 19 points and 6 rebounds
7. David Huertas (195-G/F-87) of Arecibo - 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Gerald Fitch (191-G-82) of Quebradillas - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists
9. Carlos Emory (196-F-91) of Ponce - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Ismael Romero (203-C-91) of San German - 19 points and 8 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
