Cady Lalanne
American Cady Lalanne (208-C-92) put on an amazing game in the last week for league's second-best Arecibo and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for week 2.
The 24-year old center had a double-double of 22 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team edged out Guayama (#11, 0-3), the league's bottom-ranked team 73-70. Arecibo maintains the 2nd position in Puerto Rican BSN. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Arecibo won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next week. In the team's last game Lalanne had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He just recently signed at Arecibo and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. University of Massachusetts graduate has very impressive stats this year. Lalanne is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 11.0rpg) and averages solid 1.5bpg,2.5spg,58.3% FGP and 44.4% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was 29-year old American forward Brandon Costner (206-F-87) of Humacao. Costner impressed basketball fans with 28 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Bad luck as Humacao lost that game 97-106 to Quebradillas (2-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next week. Costner is one of the most experienced players at Humacao and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.5ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 6.0rpg and 4.5apg.

The third best performed player last week was American Eugene Phelps (198-F-90) of Guayama (#11). Phelps scored 24 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Phelps' great performance Guayama lost 70-73 to Arecibo (#2, 2-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Guayama can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 3 games. Too bad for Phelps he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Phelps has individually a great season in Puerto Rico. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.0ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 11.0rpg (3rd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. David Huertas (195-G/F-87) of Arecibo - 23 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Alex Franklin (198-G/F-88) of Bayamon - 20 points, 17 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Jarrid Famous (209-C/F-88) of Humacao - 16 points and 11 rebounds
7. David Laury (206-F-90) of Mayaguez - 21 points and 13 rebounds
8. Joseph Soto (190-G-93) of Bayamon - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
9. Luis Hernandez (198-F-88) of Quebradillas - 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Hakim Warrick (206-F/C-82) of Ponce - 21 points and 5 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
