The LIME SKABA League has just passed its mid-season point and the association has released the points standings . Leading the way in the SKABA Premier division is the St.Pauls Tuff Knots who at the time of the released standings have lost just one game for the entire season. The Tuff Knots have benefitted significantly from the return of Nashorn Maynard (196-F-86) who has played exceptionally well since his return from Alaska where he plays college basketball with the University of Alaska Nanooks. Nash is one of the leagues top scorers and rebounders and is easily one of the leagues elite players. The Tuff Knots also feature Javid Williams and Noren Maynard both of whom have recently earned themselves scholarships to US Colleges. Close on the heels of the Tuff Knots are the Joseph Parry sponsored Cotton Ground Rebels who have lost just 2 games for the season. The rebels are enjoying their best season since being promoted to the Premier division in 2006. Defending Champions Horsfords Ghetto Roots are holding on to the 3rd position having lost 3 games . 2 games to the two top teams and a surprise loss to the last placed Ghaut Bucs. Ghetto Roots has improved defensively but the team is still trying to adjust to the inclusion of former national players Kiethley Hicks and Lyle Dixie Duggins. The team might suffer a bit with the possible loss of Rymal Bally Browne who is expected to be leaving shortly for the US on a scholarship as well as Levi ByBy Fyfeild who may maybe out for the season with a knee injury. Rams Hitters are in the 4th spot with 4 losses for the season. The Hitters are no longer the giants of SKABA but they are still one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Although they have lost 4 games already for the season no team in the league will want to face them in the first round of the playoffs. The team has suffered from the 2 year suspension of guard Ansel Revan . The Hitters still relies heavily on SKABA Legend Trevor Marty Huggins who has been playing basketball in SKABA for more years than at least half the players in the league has been alive. In other words Marty has been playing SKABA basketball before half the players in the league were born. Despite his age Marty remains the leagues best shooter and one of the most potent scorers. Hitters success has been weighed heavily on the shoulders of the veterans Marty along with Shawn Shabba Forbes who remains one of the leagues top forwards. 2006 champions Fig Tree are holding on to the 5th spot. The team boasts college stand-out Kemo Shasta Duncan and prolific scoring forward Delvin Warner and despite the potency of the two the team has been unable to beat any of the top 4 teams with any sort of consistency. The Cayon Lions are as usual the ultimate under-acheivers in SKABA. The team boasts a plethora of young talented players including Dave Zenga Pondt, Giron Browne and the talented veteran player, captain, coach and sponsor Tyrone Ty Olooughlin. However despite the tremendous talent the team has never been able to be real contenders. They have had a history of beating the big teams and losing to the so called small teams. Their inconsistency baffles the brains of the most ardent basketball pundit. They are currently 7th in the SKABA standings. The other 2 places in the standings are the Shawn K. Richards Sandy Point Chappurtin and the newly promoted Ghaut Bucs. Bucs had a huge upset victory over the Ghetto Roots early in the season but have been unable to return to win a game since. The Chappurtin have been plagued by player discipline and as a result the team has been seriously hampered as key players including Javal Hodge and Sheno Liddie have served at least 4 games on suspension at various times during the season. Leading the way in the A division is the Blue Devils along with the Horsfords Rootsie and the Tickers. The Blue Devils and Tickers has suffered just 2 losses while the Rootsie has suffered 3 losses. However the Rootsie has defeated Tickers in their only encounter for the season. Rounding up the top 5 in the division are the Rockers X1 who returned to the league after a number of years absence while the Quakers are holding on to the 5th place position. The Lady Blue Devils have been dominating the Female division having won all of their games for the season thus far. Former champions Cayon Lionesses are in 2nd position while the Horsfords Lady Roots are in 3rd.

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 12th 2012 - Host country Dominica got off to a disappointing start in the Sugar Creole Basketball Tournament on Friday night, losing its first game to the St Kitts & Nevis National Team known as the Sugar Ballers in a thrilling overtime match-up.
The tournament, which started off a bit later than scheduled, did not disappoint the fans in terms of quality basketball. The evening started off with the team introductions followed by the national anthems of the respective countries after former president of Dominica Amateur Basketball Association Dave Baron gave a short welcome address.
The game began very slowly with both teams gagging each other for the first 5 minutes, until St. Kitts scored first. The first quarter ended with St. Kitts 13 pts to Dominica 10 pts.
Dominica, with a practically new team from the one which participated in the tournament in St Kitts last year, recovered by scoring 17 points to St Kitts 13 pts in the 2nd quarter, to end the half 27 pts to 26 pts.
The third and fourth quarters were no different with both teams exchanging leads and being very competitive. But with 1 minute remaining in regulation time and Dominica leading 55 pts to 53 pts, St kitts was able to penetrate the Dominica defense and tie the game 55 pts to 55 pts with 13 seconds left to play.
Dominica failed to capitalize on the time left to win the game as tight defense and a near steal from St. Kitts caused the ball to go out of bounds with 1.4 seconds remaining but Dominica made the ultimate blunder with a player dribbling out the time without taking a shot.
And so the game went into overtime with the scores even at 55 points.
During the overtime period Dominica fared no better with some early turnovers and poor play. St Kitts took the lead and never relinquished, finally winning the first game of the tournament with a score of 64 pts to Dominicas 58 pts.
The Sugar Ballers continued their winning ways on Saturday evening when they dominated the Martnique National team . The Ballers led at the end of every quarter cruised to a comfortable 86-74 victory.
The SKN Team's final game will be versus the Domnica Under 23 basketball team which is expected to be another win for the Ballers.

SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten (October 1, 2012) The Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) Sporting Club has recorded a successful year of activities, rebounding after a two-year hiatus. In its latest accomplishment, the club pulled off a six-night Business Basketball Knockout with 10 teams from various businesses further cementing its relationship with the community.
NAGICO emerged champs of the September 24 - 29 tournament, while Halley Aviations and the government Fire Department secured second and third places, respectively. President of PJIAE Sporting Club, Evans J. Marsham said he feels very happy because all the activities done to date have been very successful. The feedback from the community and the various companies were positive, Marsham said.
The clubs Vice President Emile Levons explained that they felt the need to do something connected with the airport that involved interaction with each other outside of work. As for the events, they were successful. The turnout from the airport population and public was good so far and they are encouraging us to do more, Levons said.
The LB Scot Sports Auditorium was full almost every night during the hoops tournament. The other activities hosted this year by the PJIAE Sporting Club were an early morning walkathon on September 1, from the St. Maarten port in Pointe Blanche to PJIA; and a Softball Knockout in July.
The upcoming Airport Slam Games, from October 25 28, will close off the clubs activities for the year. According to Marsham, participation for these games, which will be held at the Great Bay Sports Auditorium and Jose Lake Ballpark, is expected from all of the territories of the former Netherlands Antilles. To date, Aruba and Curacao have confirmed their participation.
These games take place every year on a different island. The club is currently awaiting confirmation from the BES islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba). We try to invite at least thirty people from each participating island, but we told the BES islands that even if they can send five or six people, that would be fine, Marsham stated.
He explained that it was because PJIAE Sporting Club knew it would be hosting the Airport Slam Games that the club was revived. The club was dormant during 2010-2011 after a very active 2009. The Airport Slam will be the last public event for the year because in November and December the airport has many activities.
The games during the meet are volleyball, indoor soccer, softball, and dominoes. According to Marsham, all the activities this year have fostered better camaraderie among staffers of PJIAE and the business community. The government Fire Department and Airport players are like brothers, and it is the same now with NAGICO and GEBE, because we meet at these games and interact. Courtesy of: http://www.sknvibes.com

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 10th 2012 - The St. Kitts Nevis National Male Basketball team will be travelling to Dominica to participate in the 2nd Annual Sugar Creole Basketball Festival from the 12th 15th October. Last years festival was held in St. Kitts and naturally our National Select dominated and beat the Dominica National Team. This year Martinique and the Dominica Under 23 National Male team has been added to the festival. St. Kitts will be playing Martinique Island Team on Friday 12th October, Under 23 Dominca National Team on Saturday 13th October and the much-anticipated rematch against Dominica National Team on Sunday 14th October. We are proud to announce our 2012 Male Open National Basketball Team:
Tambi Caines, Marlon Powell (183-G), Nashorn Maynard (196-F-86, college: Alaska-Fairb.), Troy Wattley (196-F) , Kimo Liburd (F), George Gaton Delvin Marshall , Kirt Herbert (193-G), Graeme Browne, Javed Williams , Brian Morris, Livan Lee, Javal Hodge, Justin Jeffers, David Sutton Head Coach, Bj Mumford Assistant Coach, Alister James Physio, Kenroy Tobias President / Team Manager.
According to Wallis Wilkin a member of the SKABA executive and Manager/Coach of the SKABA Champions Horsfords Ghetto Roots national teams participation in the Dominican tournament is the first step towards maintaining a vibrant and formidable national team.
Our national team has been dormant for the last 6 years and this Sugar Creole Festival is the perfect first step to re-establishing a consistent and regular national basketball team, said Wilkin.
The intention moving forward is to keep the team in tact and playing together as regularly as possible with a view of being a formidable force in regional basketball and at the CBC tournament. Even if it means spearheading the organization and re-establishment of sub regional tournaments like LIBA and the OECS championships. Our players need something to strive to and outside of college scholarships, representing the country has always been the goal and biggest motivation for most of our players and the national team must be in place if we are to keep our young players motivated and interested and thus raise the standard of the sport in the federation, Wilkin continued.
This will be the first time the St.Kitts-Nevis national team will be participating in a regional event since 2006 when they participated in the CBC Tournament held in Jamaica.
In related news the SKABA Super 8 Dwayne Sturge Memorial League will break until October 18th to accommodate the National Teams practice and visit to Dominica. The Super 8 began this past Sunday with Horsfords Newtown Ghetto Roots comfortably defeating the Kajola Kristada McKnight Trotters and the 2nd game between the National Bank Bird Rock Uprisers and the Challengers Exodus was suspended due to rain interruption.
