SKABA is certainly making a statement for this season as they are taking the league and basketball to a higher level in all aspects. It was announced that past SKABA personalities, players, administrators will be honoured at the opening. Also the unveiling of a brand new state of the art 6feet by 6feet clock are all much antinicpated activites scheduled for this Sundays opening. However an opening of a new and improved SKABA League could not be complete without a performance and a performer equal to the stature of a SKABA 2012 Opening. That is why the SKABA Executive was elated to finalise negotiations with and book St.Kitts-Nevis biggest superstar, Infamus.
Infamus will be a special guest performer at the opening during the halftime of the 2nd game between Figg Tree and defending Champions Ghaut Bucs. Infamus gave a brief comment about what to expect on Sunday with his performance.
As usual my fans and the fans of SKABA basketball can expect a spectacular performance on Sunday, said Infamus. I guarantee after I take that SKABA stage on Sunday SKABA Basketball will never be the same again, he continued.
A member of SKABAs management indicated that entertainment will be an integral part of this years league as the management strives to bring back more fans to basketball and this time keep them coming.
Although we can all agree that watching a good game of basketball is more than entertainment enough we must still strive to enhance the experience of our fans. Thus we will be making an extra effort this year to incorporate much more entertainment into the league through more halftime shows by a number of established as well as up and coming artistes, said a SKABA Official.

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 12th 2012 - Host country Dominica got off to a disappointing start in the Sugar Creole Basketball Tournament on Friday night, losing its first game to the St Kitts & Nevis National Team known as the Sugar Ballers in a thrilling overtime match-up.
The tournament, which started off a bit later than scheduled, did not disappoint the fans in terms of quality basketball. The evening started off with the team introductions followed by the national anthems of the respective countries after former president of Dominica Amateur Basketball Association Dave Baron gave a short welcome address.
The game began very slowly with both teams gagging each other for the first 5 minutes, until St. Kitts scored first. The first quarter ended with St. Kitts 13 pts to Dominica 10 pts.
Dominica, with a practically new team from the one which participated in the tournament in St Kitts last year, recovered by scoring 17 points to St Kitts 13 pts in the 2nd quarter, to end the half 27 pts to 26 pts.
The third and fourth quarters were no different with both teams exchanging leads and being very competitive. But with 1 minute remaining in regulation time and Dominica leading 55 pts to 53 pts, St kitts was able to penetrate the Dominica defense and tie the game 55 pts to 55 pts with 13 seconds left to play.
Dominica failed to capitalize on the time left to win the game as tight defense and a near steal from St. Kitts caused the ball to go out of bounds with 1.4 seconds remaining but Dominica made the ultimate blunder with a player dribbling out the time without taking a shot.
And so the game went into overtime with the scores even at 55 points.
During the overtime period Dominica fared no better with some early turnovers and poor play. St Kitts took the lead and never relinquished, finally winning the first game of the tournament with a score of 64 pts to Dominicas 58 pts.
The Sugar Ballers continued their winning ways on Saturday evening when they dominated the Martnique National team . The Ballers led at the end of every quarter cruised to a comfortable 86-74 victory.
The SKN Team's final game will be versus the Domnica Under 23 basketball team which is expected to be another win for the Ballers.

A victory tonight against the Dominica U23 Team will give the SKN Sugar Ballers the Sugar Creole Basketball Cup and cap the team's undefeated run.

SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten (October 1, 2012) The Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) Sporting Club has recorded a successful year of activities, rebounding after a two-year hiatus. In its latest accomplishment, the club pulled off a six-night Business Basketball Knockout with 10 teams from various businesses further cementing its relationship with the community.
NAGICO emerged champs of the September 24 - 29 tournament, while Halley Aviations and the government Fire Department secured second and third places, respectively. President of PJIAE Sporting Club, Evans J. Marsham said he feels very happy because all the activities done to date have been very successful. The feedback from the community and the various companies were positive, Marsham said.
The clubs Vice President Emile Levons explained that they felt the need to do something connected with the airport that involved interaction with each other outside of work. As for the events, they were successful. The turnout from the airport population and public was good so far and they are encouraging us to do more, Levons said.
The LB Scot Sports Auditorium was full almost every night during the hoops tournament. The other activities hosted this year by the PJIAE Sporting Club were an early morning walkathon on September 1, from the St. Maarten port in Pointe Blanche to PJIA; and a Softball Knockout in July.
The upcoming Airport Slam Games, from October 25 28, will close off the clubs activities for the year. According to Marsham, participation for these games, which will be held at the Great Bay Sports Auditorium and Jose Lake Ballpark, is expected from all of the territories of the former Netherlands Antilles. To date, Aruba and Curacao have confirmed their participation.
These games take place every year on a different island. The club is currently awaiting confirmation from the BES islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba). We try to invite at least thirty people from each participating island, but we told the BES islands that even if they can send five or six people, that would be fine, Marsham stated.
He explained that it was because PJIAE Sporting Club knew it would be hosting the Airport Slam Games that the club was revived. The club was dormant during 2010-2011 after a very active 2009. The Airport Slam will be the last public event for the year because in November and December the airport has many activities.
The games during the meet are volleyball, indoor soccer, softball, and dominoes. According to Marsham, all the activities this year have fostered better camaraderie among staffers of PJIAE and the business community. According to Wallis Wilkin a member of the SKABA executive and Manager/Coach of the SKABA Champions Horsfords Ghetto Roots national teams participation in the Dominican tournament is the first step towards maintaining a vibrant and formidable national team.
Our national team has been dormant for the last 6 years and this Sugar Creole Festival is the perfect first step to re-establishing a consistent and regular national basketball team, said Wilkin.
The intention moving forward is to keep the team in tact and playing together as regularly as possible with a view of being a formidable force in regional basketball and at the CBC tournament. Even if it means spearheading the organization and re-establishment of sub regional tournaments like LIBA and the OECS championships. Our players need something to strive to and outside of college scholarships, representing the country has always been the goal and biggest motivation for most of our players and the national team must be in place if we are to keep our young players motivated and interested and thus raise the standard of the sport in the federation, Wilkin continued.
This will be the first time the St.Kitts-Nevis national team will be participating in a regional event since 2006 when they participated in the CBC Tournament held in Jamaica.
In related news the SKABA Super 8 Dwayne Sturge Memorial League will break until October 18th to accommodate the National Teams practice and visit to Dominica. The Super 8 began this past Sunday with Horsfords Newtown Ghetto Roots comfortably defeating the Kajola Kristada McKnight Trotters and the 2nd game between the National Bank Bird Rock Uprisers and the Challengers Exodus was suspended due to rain interruption.
