The Horsfords Ghetto Roots Basketball Club is off to a good start for the LIME SKABA 2010 season as both of their teams, the SKABA Champions Ghetto Roots and the A division contenders Rootsie, recorded opening game victories.

The Rootsie came up against the formidable Monkey Hill Rockers XI in a keenly contested encounter. Both teams traded baskets for most of the game and ended the first half at an even 39-39. Things remained the same for the 2nd half as Jason Shaggy Norford for Rootsie and Calvin Butters Wallace for Rockers led their teams in a very exciting uptempo game. At the end of regulation the game was tied forcing an overtime period.
The overtime period was all Rootsie as they outscored the Rockers to win the game 83-77.
Jason Shaggy Norford led Rootsie with 24 pts while Calvin Wallace had 27 Points for Rockers.
Defending SKABA Champions Ghetto Roots had similar fortunes as they easily disposed of the Shawn K. Richards Sandy Point Chappurtin. The Chappurtin brother duo of Taslyn Belboda and Javal Hodge played exceptionally as they were able to match the Ghetto Roots dynamic backcourt of Rymal Bally Browne and Levi By-By Fyfeild. Belboda and Hodge gave the Ghetto Roots all they could handle however the Ghetto Roots simply had to much weapons and too much talent for the Chappurtin to be of any real threat. Despite losing SKABA MVP Browne early in the game and a lack-lustre night from the exciting Fyfeild Ghetto Roots still managed to make relatively easy work of Chappurtin with a 97-92 victory.
Taslyn Tazzy Belboda led all scorers with 27 points and 5 assists for Chappurtin while Carlos Mucho Caliente Monzac led Ghetto Roots with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Ghetto Roots next game will be on Sunday versus Fig Tree while Chappurtin will take on Cayon on Saturday.
Exodus defeated the Conaree Fireball 66-55 in the LIME A Division.
For Exodus, Jason Jarvis had 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Michael Rawlins had 19 points and five rebounds.
E.O. Loughlinn had 14 points for Conaree.
Blue Devils remained undefeated in the A Division with a 63-52 victory against the Polstars. Tavo Sargeant was the top scorer for the Blue Devils with 21 points, and Kareem Gerald had 11 points and seven rebounds.
For the Polstars, Shane Christmas had 14 points, Kevin Fahie had 13 points and Gareth Phillips had 12 points.
Staying in the A Division the Quakers defeated the Bird Rock Uprisers 71-69, with David Debeson scoring 21 points and Tyrone Southwell scoring 14 points for the Quakers.
Justin Williams had 17 points and Ian Carr had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Bird Rock.
In the Premier Division the Cotton Ground Devils defeated the Rams Hitters 80-79.
Royden Browne and Jennerson France both had 20 points for Cotton Ground, with France also pulling down 10 rebounds. Kurt Herbert also had a good night for the Rebels with 16 points.
The reeling Hitters were led by vetran Trevor Huggins who had 22 points, and Ansel Revan who had 13 points. This is the first time in the history of the Premier Division that Cotton Ground has ever defeated the Hitters.
In the Junior Division the Blue Devils defeated the four-time defending champions 74-59.
For the Blue Devils, Scilachi Robinsion had 23 points, and Renaldo George had 19 points.
For Sandy Point, Travis Rogers had 16 points and Rameece Belboda had 10 points.

Why mini Kevin Durant' St.Kitts Top NBA Pick Jonathan Isaac has the Draft's highest ceiling - 10 months ago
The concept of an NBA prospect having a 'high ceiling is something that's often discussed, but rarely defined. Is this the most exciting thing we can say about a player on draft night, meaning that, someday, he could become that franchise cornerstone every team needs? Or are we saying that a player has the physical attributes and the athletic prowess to round into a phenomenal basketball player, if he puts in the hard work and gets some lucky breaks? Or is that term a backhanded complime...   [read more]
