BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 10th 2012 - The St. Kitts Nevis National Male Basketball team will be travelling to Dominica to participate in the 2nd Annual Sugar Creole Basketball Festival from the 12th 15th October. Last years festival was held in St. Kitts and naturally our National Select dominated and beat the Dominica National Team. This year Martinique and the Dominica Under 23 National Male team has been added to the festival. St. Kitts will be playing Martinique Island Team on Friday 12th October, Under 23 Dominca National Team on Saturday 13th October and the much-anticipated rematch against Dominica National Team on Sunday 14th October. We are proud to announce our 2012 Male Open National Basketball Team:

Tambi Caines, Marlon Powell (183-G), Nashorn Maynard (196-F-86, college: Alaska-Fairb.), Troy Wattley (196-F) , Kimo Liburd (F), George Gaton Delvin Marshall , Kirt Herbert (193-G), Graeme Browne, Javed Williams , Brian Morris, Livan Lee, Javal Hodge, Justin Jeffers, David Sutton Head Coach, Bj Mumford Assistant Coach, Alister James Physio, Kenroy Tobias President / Team Manager.

According to Wallis Wilkin a member of the SKABA executive and Manager/Coach of the SKABA Champions Horsfords Ghetto Roots national teams participation in the Dominican tournament is the first step towards maintaining a vibrant and formidable national team.

Our national team has been dormant for the last 6 years and this Sugar Creole Festival is the perfect first step to re-establishing a consistent and regular national basketball team, said Wilkin.

The intention moving forward is to keep the team in tact and playing together as regularly as possible with a view of being a formidable force in regional basketball and at the CBC tournament. Even if it means spearheading the organization and re-establishment of sub regional tournaments like LIBA and the OECS championships. Our players need something to strive to and outside of college scholarships, representing the country has always been the goal and biggest motivation for most of our players and the national team must be in place if we are to keep our young players motivated and interested and thus raise the standard of the sport in the federation, Wilkin continued.

This will be the first time the St.Kitts-Nevis national team will be participating in a regional event since 2006 when they participated in the CBC Tournament held in Jamaica.

In related news the SKABA Super 8 Dwayne Sturge Memorial League will break until October 18th to accommodate the National Teams practice and visit to Dominica. The Super 8 began this past Sunday with Horsfords Newtown Ghetto Roots comfortably defeating the Kajola Kristada McKnight Trotters and the 2nd game between the National Bank Bird Rock Uprisers and the Challengers Exodus was suspended due to rain interruption.

Why mini Kevin Durant' St.Kitts Top NBA Pick Jonathan Isaac has the Draft's highest ceiling - 11 months ago
The concept of an NBA prospect having a 'high ceiling is something that's often discussed, but rarely defined. Is this the most exciting thing we can say about a player on draft night, meaning that, someday, he could become that franchise cornerstone every team needs? Or are we saying that a player has the physical attributes and the athletic prowess to round into a phenomenal basketball player, if he puts in the hard work and gets some lucky breaks? Or is that term a backhanded complime...   [read more]
