Game 2 of both the 3rd place and championship games tipped off this past Saturday 9th June in the Rooster Select National Mens Basketball finals at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. In what was dubbed as a must win games for both Gardens battling for third place and Courts Jets in the championship game, there was a feeling of desperation as the two teams seek to square the three game series after going down in the first encounter one week ago.
In the first game of the night, Gardens competed throughout but still came up short to a dominant and determined VBCC team 57- 46 led by Marcian Calderon with 19 points and 14 rebounds, to win the three game series 2 - 0 and claim the third place in this years tournament. For Gardens, Mervin Augustin top scored with 11 points and 7 rebounds but it was not enough to lead his team to victory.
Game 2 the championship game, followed with Canaries coming off an impressive win in Game 1, seeking to sweep 2- time defending champions Courts Jets and winning their first ever National title. Early on that looked like the case, but a more organized and focussed Courts Jets stepped up their defensive intensity in the second quarter and put the victory beyond doubt squaring the best of 3 series 1 - 1 with a 57 - 39 double digit win.
For Courts Jets, Ron Du Murville led the way for them with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Durocher Antoine had a sub-par outing, but still top scored for Canaries with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The three game series is now tied 1 - 1 and will be decided with its final game on Saturday 16th June from 7:00pm at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.
Following the excitement a short trophies presentation and individual awards ceremony for this years tournament will take place to bring the curtains down on what has been dubbed successful tournament thus far.
