FIBA Americas and the Neiva 2011 Local Organizing Committee announced May 5 as the date in which the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women's Draw will be held. The Draw will take place at 11:00 local time, in the Auditorio Rodrigo Lara Bonilla of the city of Huila. In the Draw, the ten participating countries will be divided into two groups of five teams each. Those participant countries are: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico and Colombia, as the host country. The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women will take place from September 24 to October 1, and the winning team will secure a spot in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Those teams finishing between second and fourth place will have the chance to play in the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifier Championship to earn a spot in London 2012. Top representatives from FIBA Americas, the Colombian Basketball Federation and the Huila Government have confirmed their attendance, in particular Governor Luis Jorge Sanchez Garcia and some of his Staff members. Also present will be legendaries figures from basketball and representatives of the Colombian National team, as well as Mr. Jairo Romero, President of the Colombian Basketball Federation. The tournament will be taking place from September 24 to October 1, at the Alvaro Sanchez Silva Coliseum in the city of Neiva, Colombia.
Lara State U17 women's basketball team is going to participate in the Two Nations basketball tournament in Cucuta, Colombia from March 19 March 21 of 2011. The squad led by Coach Abraham Granado got the invitation from Javier Duarte whom is the president of the Santander North's basketball league. This international basketball tournament will be a great as preparation games for Lara state due they are getting ready to participate in the upcoming Venezuela U17 women's National Tournament to be held from April 01 through 08 of 2011 in the Sport City's Dome located in San Juan de los Morros, Guarico State Venezuela. Lara will be represented by the best women basketball players U17 from the State as; Maringel Mendoza, Karyumi lvarez, Carolina Maramara, Marins Mendoza, Mara Daniela Rodrguez, Mara Mndez, Yoanlis Gmez, Janeivis Paz, Derinais Colmenrez, Waldimar Rodrguez, Yulexi Arteaga, Doriannis Castillo, Anna Vicent and the litte Maringel Mendoza.
