21 Questions with Pietra Gay My favourite journey is playing basketball in Italy
Personal highlights Pietra Gay is the first Trinidadian woman to have ever played at the elite Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in the USA. To date she has not only played for the Houston Comets in the WNBA Ring but the NCAA Elite 8 and the Louisiana State University Team where she made All American status. A former national captain of the Trinidad and Tobago National Women's Basketball Team, Gay has plied her skills in Italy, Turkey, Greece, Romania, Puerto Rico, and England as a pro basketball player. In addition to steering the T&T Team to a silver medal in the CBC Championships in Puerto Rico in 2008, the San Fernando born athlete has an admirable assortment of accolades- of course her WNBA jersey is her favourite. Currently she still plays basketball for local outfit, Courts Horizon and she is the assistant coach for the national team. Launching out into the coaching realm of the sport has been a new challenging frontier for Gay. Her latest stint locally the Royal Extra Lions Men's Basketball Team. Gay is determined to reap success in basketball whether it be from her own efforts or those of her team.
1. What quality do you like most in women?
Their Independence!
2. Your happiest moment?
Hitting the game-winning shot to take my team to the Championship series in Puerto Rico.
3. Your secret fear?
I prefer to keep it a secret.
4. Which living person do you admire most?
My mom for her strength and courage.
5. What quality do you value most in your friends both male or female?
Honesty it's the number one quality!
6. What is your greatest extravagance?
My House I paid too much for it!
7. The place you would like to visit before you die?
The motherland Africa.
8. What is your favourite journey?
Playing basketball in Italy.
9. What advice will you give people wishing to enter your field?
Practice hard, stay positive, enjoy the game, respect yourself and others and remember that determination is the key.
10. What is your current state of mind?
Live, love, and laugh out loud.
11. What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Envy and jealously.
12. What is your greatest joy?
My two nieces Kayla and Nia.
13. What is your biggest turn on in a man?
Nice abs.
14. What is your guilty pleasure?
Talking on the phone and internet.
15. What is your lowest depth of misery?
The death of my father.
16. What is your pet peeve?
When some people lie just for the sake of lying. They do so apparently for no reason.
17. What do you get complimented most about?
My achievements and my smile.
18. When was the last time you cried?
When my aunt Moy passed away from cancer.
19. What was the first thing you did this morning?
Pray. Thanking God for rising yet another day in the land of the living.
20. What do you consider your most cherished virtue?
My willingness to help others.
21. If you had one personal wish (which you alone can benefit from hence world peace etc not applicable)?
The North Zone Division of the T&T Schools Basketball Association held three games for the various age groups on 28/05/2013. The competition began following their executive decision to host a shorter league version for this season.
In the Under 15 Boys, East Mucurapo Seconday School (EMSS) scored a huge 66-33 win over Fatima at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain.

The North Zone Division of the T&T Schools Basketball Association held three games for the various age groups on 28/05/2013. The competition began following their executive decision to host a shorter league version for this season.
In the Under 15 Boys, East Mucurapo Seconday School (EMSS) scored a huge 66-33 win over Fatima at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain.
Josiah Best led EMSS with a game high 28pts while Isaiah Francis added 19pts. For Fatima, Jonathan Pantin scored 19pts in a losing effort.
Over at the International School of Port of Spain gym, Morvant Laventille Secondary (MLSS) defeated Success Laventille Secondary (SLSS) 39-34 in a hard fought contest in the Boys U-17 division.
For MLSS, Christopher Brown top scored with 20pts and Keyon Bailey added 10. Shabon Scrubb led SLSS with 15pts while Anfferny Ambrose had 12.
In the Boys U-20, Barataria Boys Secondary School (BBSS) had an easy 57-40 win over Russell Latapy Secondary School (RLSS).
Shakeel Dyte with a game high 32pts led BBSS. He was ably supported by Stephen Hillaire with 14pts.
For RLSS, Quincy Turner top scored with 18pts while Shaquille James chipped in with13.

Julius Ashby (205-F/C-82, college: Colorado) finished an outstanding season in Japan. His Fukuoka Rizing reached the Finals in BJ league, however lost to Yokohama 90:101.
Fukuoka Rizing was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 61-46 second half run of Yokohama BC. Yokohama BC shot 34 for 46 from the free-throw line, while Fukuoka Rizing only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Fukuoka Rizing was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch [read more]

Draelon Burns stepped up and scored 34 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and swingman Masayuki Kabaya chipped in 35 points (!!!) (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Pape Faye followed them with 11 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Reginald Warren responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and the other Josh Peppers scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Julius Ashby collected 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. In 2012-2013 for Fukuoka Rizing (Japan-BJ League, starting five) Julius Ashby averaged high 14.3 points per game.
