Peters signs with Tallahassee! - Sep 1, 2012

Trinidad born 6-11 center Richard Richy Peters will start his collegiate season at Tallahassee Community College. Peters chose the Florida school to continue his basketball future.

Peters, who played for Canada 17u team, was previously committed to play this season at Washington State University. However he was ruled ineligible according to NCAA guidelines. Instead Peters will complete for the Eagles and at the same time keeping an open mind for any Division 1 recruiting process.

According to Peters, he will consider every school that is recruiting him. Since his career at Westwind Prep (AZ) the big man, who is listed at 250lbs, has attracted a bunch of mid-majors and a few high-majors have been around.

Initially in 2011 he planned to play for Oklahoma. However with the termination of the Head Coach, Jeff Capel, and subsequent departure of Assistant Coach, Dionne Phelp, Peters decommitted from the University of Oklahoma.

Afterwards he committed to Washington State and was expected to be their center of the future. Instead the focus of attention has now shifted to Tallahassee. With programs such as Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Washington State and Washington all previously recruiting him, Peters still reminds open for the D1 process.

In the meantime most scouting reports list the left handed Peters as having all the physical tools to become a dominant low post player. He has a big strong frame, good athleticism, mobility, footwork and a soft touch around the basket for a big guy.

In addition his former prep school coach, Bobby Bossman, described Richy as a very bright kid who should do fine. Bossman also stated that Peters has a really high basketball IQ which most big men dont possess. He is smart with the basketball and is great at passing it out of the post.

With all the attention surrounding the big guy, the Panhandle Conference in which the Tallahassee Eagles competes will now be the radar of focus for more division one colleges!

On November 8 in Russia, Devaughn Akoon-Purcell had a great game in the last round for league's leader Bakken and was voted Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. Akoon-Purcell top scored with 31pts with 6rebs as the defending Danish champs Bakken surprised the league leaders Russian Avtodor 97-85 in the FIBA Europe Cup competition. Akoon-Purcell shines in Europe Cup - 19 days ago
In the FIBA Europe Cup, guard Akoon-Purcell led Bakken to a 95-76 win over Portuguese Benfica on 25th October in a Group B contest. He had 25pts & 5rebs as Bakken improved its record to 1-1. In their opening game on the 18th October Bakken went under 73-76 to Russian Avtodor. He scored 17pts in the loss but they still maintained the top position after two rounds.
