Maloney Pacers scored a hard fought 109-104 win over Valencia Heat in Game One of their Big Four final of the Eastern Community Basketball League at the Maloney Indoor Facility on Tuesday night.
Led by point guard Keon Joseph with a match-high 40 points, Pacers led 42-38 at the end of the first half. However, despite the efforts of forward Wayne Warlord Richards with 30 points, Heat was unable to slow down Pacers who pulled away in the final period to go one up in the best of three series.
For Pacers, Joseph was ably supported by Captain Gimel Lewis and Nathyon Lewis with 12pts apiece. While for Heat, Jeffrey Saunders added 28pts, Captain Fabrice Fisher had 26 while 16yr old Ivan Williams contributed 18.
The second game is scheduled for Saturday.
In the first game of a double header, Red Hill Jets defeated Mayaro Pacers 74-60 in Game One of their Second Division series. Jets were inspired by Hilwayn Hernandez and Dave Johnson with 14 points each while Luane Lok Tow chipped in with 10.
For Mayaro, Garry Halgly scored a game high 21 points and Ludwell Richardson added 17.

Julius Ashby (205-F/C-82, college: Colorado) finished an outstanding season in Japan. His Fukuoka Rizing reached the Finals in BJ league, however lost to Yokohama 90:101.

At the losing side Reginald Warren responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and the other Josh Peppers scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Julius Ashby collected 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. In 2012-2013 for Fukuoka Rizing (Japan-BJ League, starting five) Julius Ashby averaged high 14.3 points per game.

Opening round on Sunday 7th April, Valencia 108 vs. Vintage 47. Fabrice Fisher led Valenica with 30pts, Ivan Williams had 24 and Jeffery Saunders got 21 points . Wayne Cupid and Kelvin Peterkin both scored 16pts each for Vintage.
San Juan Warriors 43 vs. Samaroo Village 42. Sean Solomon and Michael Straker scored 15pts and 10pots respectively for San Juan. Both Dayne Cummings and Roger Moore scored 13 points each for Samaroo.
