6-9 centre Shawn Lawrence guided Maloney is Wee Basketball Team to a convincing 99-65 win over Arima Oilers in the inaugural Ministry of National Securitys Hoop of Life Basketball league on Thursday night.

The competition bounced off with the National Security Minister Jack Warner meeting the players and jumping the ball to start the contest in front of an appreciative home crowd at Maloney Gardens.

With over $1m up for grabs in prize money, Maloney began the battle in a dominant mood controlling the game, 19-11, 43-24 and 70-41 by the end of the third period. Meanwhile during the third session, Maloney 6-7 centre Keivan Bacquain excited the fans at the Maloney Outdoor Court with a massive dunk which broke the ring.

Following the delay the officials shifted the game to the adjacent Maloney Indoor Sport Arena. On the resumption, Maloney maintained its advantage with Bacquian getting 12points and 7rebs. Other support for the home team came from forward Kern George with 22pts which included four shots from beyond the three-point line.

For Oilers, Randy Greenidge top scored with a double-double of 18 pts & 10rebs plus 4 steals. The action will continue with other matches scheduled at various venues from Friday.
