Here is the weekly review of the top performing Trinidad and Tobago players, who play currently abroad.


Ian Young

   #1. This week's number one is former international point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican LNBP (second division). He could not help Lechugueros (6-18) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Young's very good performance Lechugueros was badly defeated 91-74 at home by the higher-ranked Correcaminos (#11). He was the top scorer with 23 points. Young also added 6 passes. It's Young's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Young averages: 17.6ppg, 1.8rpg, 5.8apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 40.5%, 3FGP: 30.3% and FT: 70.6%. He is a naturalized American. Young played for the Trinidad and Tobago senior national team two years ago. Strangely he has never played in Trinidad and Tobago.

Kibwe Trim

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Kibwe Trim (208-84, agency: Top Notch Sports, college: Sacred Heart, currently plays in South Korea). Trim was the major contributor in an Anyang KGC's victory against the closely-ranked Goyang Orions (7-7) 80-65 in the South Korean KBL in Saturday night's game. He recorded 14 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Anyang KGC (9-5) is placed fourth in the KBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Trim's overall stats this year are: 4.1ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 55.0% and FT: 56.3%. He played for the Trinidad and Tobago national team in 2010.

   #3. The Trinidad and Tobago player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado, currently plays in Japan). Ashby led Fukuoka Rizing to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Shiga L-Stars (4-6) crushing them 99-75 in the Japanese BJ League last Saturday. He recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 32 minutes. Fukuoka Rizing (6-4) is placed fifth in Western group. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Ashby has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 44.1% and FT: 75.0% in the 10 games he played so far. He played for the Trinidad and Tobago national team two years ago.

Moriba De Freitas

   #4. Forward Moriba De Freitas (206-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to help the Pepperdine in their game against the University of California (0-0) in the NCAA. De Freitas scored 8 points. The Pepperdine was badly defeated 79-62 on the road by the University of California. This season De Freitas has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Trinidad and Tobago U17 national team back in 2007.

   #5. Former international center Kyle Rowley (213-90, currently studies in the States) contributed to an St.Mary's, CA's surprising victory against the Sonoma State University crushing them 95-69 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Rowley scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 10 minutes. The Saint Mary's College of California has conference record this season. Rowley has reliable stats this year: 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg in the eight games. He used to play for the Trinidad and Tobago national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Trinidad and Tobago passport but never been selected to any of Trinidad and Tobago national teams:

   #1. D'or Fischer (211-C-81, college: W.Virginia, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Superleague could not help BC Donetsk (6-7) in their last game. Despite his very good performance BC Donetsk lost 83-91 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Ferro-ZNTU. Fischer was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 33 minutes. It was BC Donetsk's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Fischer has relatively good stats this year: 10.6ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.8apg, 1.7bpg and 1.3spg in the 10 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Fischer has never played in Trinidad and Tobago.

   #2. Ronald Roberts (203-F-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) led St.Joseph's to an overtime victory against the University of Notre Dame 79-70 in the NCAA on Friday night. Roberts had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. The Saint Joseph's University has conference record this season. Roberts has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 1.8rpg, 5.8apg and 1.6spg in the five games.

   #3. Experienced Shawn Myers (198-G/F-69, college: W.Georgia, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL was not able to help Cheshire Jets (2-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Myers' very good performance Cheshire Jets was defeated 97-84 in Worcester by the higher-ranked Wolves (#4). He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Myers is ranked sixth on the list of the best rebounders in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg. Myers has a dual citizenship: Trinidad and Tobago and British.

   #4. Joey Haywood (185-PG-84, currently plays in NBLCanada), who plays in the NBL Canada was not able to secure a victory for the Halifax Rainmen (2-4) in their last game. Despite his good performance the Halifax Rainmen lost 86-90 in Moncton, NB to the higher-ranked (#4) Moncton Miracles. Haywood scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 38 minutes. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Haywood has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg in the eight games. He is another player who holds two passports: Trinidad and Tobago and Canadian.

   #5. Travis Trim (185-G-93, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the Md-E Shore in their game against the University of South Florida in the NCAA. Trim scored only 4 points. The Md-E Shore was badly defeated 78-59 in Tampa, FL by the University of South Florida. Trim's stats this season are: 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg.

   #6. Kadeem Jack (206-F-92, is currently at the American university) managed to help Rutgers, The State University in a victory against the Princeton University 58-52 in the NCAA last Friday. He scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. Jack averaged so far 12.1ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg in the eight games.

KTP Basket Kotka (Korisliiga) landed experienced 35-year old Trinidad and Tobago ex-international point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn, agency: Interperformances). He played in the summer at Caballeros de Culiacan in Mexican CIBACOPA. In 34 games he averaged impressive 16.1ppg, 3.6rpg and 3.1apg. LEB Gold newcomer Saenz Horeca Araberri landed 26-year old Trinidad and Tobago center Kyle Rowley (213-107kg-90, college: St.Mary's, CA). He was about to sign at Saski Baskonia (Liga Endesa). LEB Gold will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. The last season Rowley played at Ourense where in 35 LEB Gold games he averaged 6.2ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.2spg. 26-year old Trinidad and Tobago center Kyle Rowley (213-107kg-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) left Saski Baskonia Vitoria (Liga Endesa). The last season Rowley played at Ourense (LEB Gold) where in 35 games he recorded 6.2ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.2spg. He played in the final of WCC Tournament in 2013.
