Marabella United shared more licks than Christmas cheer on Saturday night when they ran past Pleasantville Spartans 101-59 in Hoop of Life Community Basketball League at Marabella Basketball Court, Bayshore in Marabella.
Five players notched double figures in the South Sector II game as the hosts jumped to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter, before a fightback from Pleasantville made it 35-27 by the halfway mark.
But Marabella forward Ako Pascall kick-started the breakaway with 20 of his game-high 31 in the second half, and the eventual victory that put Marabella into second spot behind unbeaten leaders La Romaine.
Pascall got able support from Joel Marryshaw (13 points), and Michael Pantin, Asfa Grant and Rekayi Isaac all chipped in with ten points each. Kino Fleary (18) and Adisa Romeo (14) were the best shooters for P'ville.
The match was much more comfortable for Marabella than their 69-47 win over San Fernando a week ago, with Pascall putting up 14 points, two assists and a pair of steals.
In other South action on Saturday, Penal came out victorious in the lowest-scoring encounter of the League, prevailing 41-36 over Santa Flora. They had Franklyn Lewis to thank with his match-high 11, although two players, Kelvin Henry and Quincy Bradshaw sank ten points apiece for Santa Flora.
And in East Sector III, Valencia Magic ran away easily with their contest when they hosted Toco Fun Lovers, a 87-26 triumph.
Fabrice Fisher sank a game-high 29 points for Valencia and 12 rebounds, helping his team open a 24-4 first quarter lead that only increased from there. Toco's best period, the third, yielded just ten points, as Valencia cantered to their fourth win in as many matches to keep their lead in the five-team standings.
Also scoring for Valencia was centre Michael Saunders with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five steals, while Stefan Davis added 18 points and nine boards. No Toco player scored more than six points.
