CENTRE Shawn Lawrence had another big game as Maloney Is Wee Basketball team had a big second half as they defeated Arima Oilers 96-64 in their Hoop of Life Community Basketball East Sector match on Thursday night.

Playing at the Arima had Court Lawrence dropped a game-high 26 points and the star studded visiting team had a big second half on their way to claiming their eight win in eight matches to finish as the top team.

Maloney ended the first quarter with a 20-15 lead and maintained it at the end of the second period as both teams scored 22 points. The visitors then came out with all guns blazing in the third, as they smoked Arima for 28 points. Their defense was a big factor as well as they held the home team to just 14 points in the quarter which ended 70-51.

The Jackson Charles coached unit continued the pressure although being up by 19 points and they restricted the Oilers to just 13 points in the final period while scoring 26 points at the other end of the court.

Lawrence led four Maloney players in double digits. Captain Kern George and Wayne Richards had 14 points each and Patrick Scipio added 10. The Medina brothers Nicholas and Justin had 16 and 15 points respectively and Randy Greenidge supported with 12 for Arima.

FORMER NATIONAL stand-out Stephen 'Lighter' Lewis walked away with the coveted Most Valuable Player award in the Premier Division at the bpTT Mayaro Basketball League's 2016 prize distribution, recently. Halifax Hurricanes (NBL Canada) inked 33-year old former Trinidad and Tobago international point guard Joey Haywood (185-82kg-84, college: St.Mary's) from Halifax Rainmen.
