Ian Young's 32 points make him top Trinidad and Tobago player abroad of the week - Jan 20, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Trinidad and Tobagos who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn, currently plays in Mexico), who plays in the Mexican LNBP (second division). He could not help Lechugueros (12-28) in their last game. Despite Young's very good performance Lechugueros lost 82-90 at home to the much higher-ranked (#5) Panteras. He was the top scorer with 32 points. Young also added 6 assists in 40 minutes on the court. It was Lechugueros' sixth consecutive loss in a row. Young is ranked sixth on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best passers (third place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Young averages: 22.3ppg, 2.3rpg, 5.6apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 36.7%, 3FGP: 39.1% and FT: 79.4% in the 23 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Young played for the Trinidad and Tobago senior national team three years ago. Strangely he has never played in Trinidad and Tobago.

Kibwe Trim

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Kibwe Trim (208-84, agency: Top Notch Sports, college: Sacred Heart, currently plays in South Korea). Trim was the major contributor in an Anyang KGC's victory against the league outsider KCC Egis (5-28) crushing them 78-57 in the South Korean KBL last Sunday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 16 rebounds. Anyang KGC (17-16) is placed fourth in the KBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Trim's first season with the team. Trim's overall stats this year are: 6.4ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 66.4%(85-128) and FT: 54.0%. He played for the Trinidad and Tobago national team in 2010.

   #3. The Trinidad and Tobago player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado, currently plays in Japan), who plays in the Japanese BJ League. He was not able to help Fukuoka Rizing (16-10) in their last game. Despite Ashby's good performance the fourth-placed Fukuoka Rizing lost 87-93 on the road to the second-ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix in the Western group. He recorded 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks in 27 minutes. Ashby has very impressive stats this year: 15.4ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.7apg, 1.3bpg, 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 69.2% in the 26 games. He played for the Trinidad and Tobago national team three years ago.

Moriba De Freitas

   #4. Forward Moriba De Freitas (206-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the Pepperdine (1-4) in their game against the Santa Clara University (3-3) in the NCAA. De Freitas recorded 5 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Pepperdine was defeated 83-76 on their home court in Malibu, CA by the Santa Clara University. It was Pepperdine's third consecutive loss in a row. De Freitas' overall stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg. He used to play for the Trinidad and Tobago U17 national team back in 2007.

   #5. Former international center Kyle Rowley (213-90, currently studies in the States) managed to help Saint Mary's College of California in a victory against the University of Portland (1-4) crushing them 60-38 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Rowley recorded only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court. The Saint Mary's College of California has 4-1 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Rowley's overall stats are: 9.2ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg in the 10 games. He used to play for the Trinidad and Tobago national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Trinidad and Tobago passport but never been selected to any of Trinidad and Tobago national teams:

   #1. Joey Haywood (185-PG-84, currently plays in NBLCanada), who plays in the NBL Canada could not help the Halifax Rainmen (12-13) in their last game. Despite Haywood's very good performance the Halifax Rainmen was edged in an overtime 127-124 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Oshawa Power. He was the top scorer with 27 points. Haywood also added 6 rebounds in 42 minutes. This year Haywood's overall stats are: 6.4ppg and 5.0rpg in the 32 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Trinidad and Tobago and Canadian.

   #2. Ronald Roberts (203-F-91, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the St.Joseph's (1-2) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Roberts' very good performance the St.Joseph's was badly defeated 79-59 in a derby game by the University of Pennsylvania. He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds. Roberts also added 2 blocks. Roberts' overall stats this season are: 6.4ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #3. Jamal Fenton (175-PG-91, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Fresno State University (1-3) crushing them 72-45 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Fenton scored 9 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. The University of New Mexico has 3-0 conference record this season. So far his team won all three games in the conference. Fenton is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in N.Mexico's roster. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Fenton averages: 15.4ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.7apg and 1.3bpg. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Fenton has never played in Trinidad and Tobago.

   #4. D'or Fischer (211-C-81, college: W.Virginia, currently plays in VTB United League) was not able to secure a victory for BC Donetsk (4-7) in their game against Kalev/Cramo (3-8) in the VTB United League. He cannot count it as his best performance. Fischer scored only 3 points in 22 minutes. BC Donetsk (#7) was edged 61-60 in Tallinn by the lower-ranked (#8) Kalev/Cramo in the group A of VTB United League. Fischer is currently fourth on the league's list of best blockers with 1.5bpg. He also averaged so far 9.2ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg in the 10 games. Fischer is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Trinidad and Tobago.

   #5. Kadeem Jack (206-F-92, is currently at the American university) couldn't help the Rutgers (3-3) in their game against the University of Notre Dame (3-1) in the NCAA. Jack recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Rutgers was edged 69-66 in Notre Dame, IL by the University of Notre Dame. Jack's total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg.

NBFTT Appoints its First Female President - Mar 25, 2016

The National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT) appointed Ms. Claire Mitchell - currently the Secretary General to act in the position of President after the Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Mr. Garvin Warwick at their Statutory Board Meeting on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Carrington guides Seaton Hall to Big East Final - Mar 12, 2016

Khadeen Carrington had a great first-half performance for Seton Hall against 5th ranked Xavier on Friday. He tallied 14pts, 5rebs and 3assists in the first 16 minutes against Xavier as the Pirates beat the Musketeers 87-83 in the semi-finals. Following his fantastic performance the previous day, Carrington again led the way scoring 23pts and 7rebs.
