Valencia heat up Police - Feb 22, 2016

Police men's basketball team suffered its first loss, 98-85, to Valencia Heat on Saturday night at the Maloney Indoor Complex. In game one of the Big Four semi-finals of the NBFTT national club championships Heat outran the lawmen 32-25 in the final quarter to steal the victory.

In closely contested opening game, Fabrice Fisher had a game high 24pts as Police seized the opening, 21-19. However, at the end of the half Heat took the advantage, 39-37. In the third period. Heat maintained its lead, 66-60, as it was obvious that Police team missed one of its key players, Adrian Joseph. Joseph had limited playing time coming off the bench and didn't played after being substituted during the first half.

Led by Randy Greenidge with 22pts, Heat controlled the last session as Police committed too many unforced errors. Greenidge was ably assisted by Michael Saunders & Keyon Joseph with 18pts apiece while Kevon Noreiga added 11pts, For Police, Dextroy Manswell had 15pts, Wesley Vincent 13pts and Phillip Alexander added 10 in the losing effort.

In the second game of the double header, Detour Shak Attack scored a hard fought 56-52 win over Petro Jazz in a low scoring contest. Shak Attack led throughout the game 14-11, 27-26, 43-41 and 56-52. For the winners, Andrew Ifill had 19pts while Sheldon Christian added 10. Ako Pascall led Jazz with 18pts and Damien Caton had 11.

Action in the Best of Three Series continues tonight (Monday) from 7:00pm at the Pleasantville Indoor Complex.

Center Johnny Hamilton (7') led the University of Texas, Arlington men's basketball team to one of its finest overall performances of the season on Saturday night at the First National Bank Arena. In a convincing away 97-71 win over Arkanas State in the Sun Belt Conference, Hamilton tallied a game high 8rebs along with 19ts. LPetrotrin Petro Jazz overcame Maloney Pacers 97-65 at the BlG 6 Playoffs at the Jean Pierre Complex. Ako Pascal (F) top-scored for the winners with 24 points, while Kevin Sargeant (193-C, college: Ohio Wesleyan) netted 21. Ahkeem Boyd replied with 19 points in the losing effort. Detour Shak Attack defeated Straker Nets 74-70. Kurt Christian(G-83) nailed 18 points in a win. Richard Guiseppi answered with 18 points in the losing effort.   [read more]

On November 8 in Russia, Devaughn Akoon-Purcell had a great game in the last round for league's leader Bakken and was voted Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. Akoon-Purcell top scored with 31pts with 6rebs as the defending Danish champs Bakken surprised the league leaders Russian Avtodor 97-85 in the FIBA Europe Cup competition.
