Carrington guides Seaton Hall to Big East Final - Mar 12, 2016

Khadeen Carrington had a great first-half performance for Seton Hall against 5th ranked Xavier on Friday. He tallied 14pts, 5rebs and 3assists in the first 16 minutes against Xavier as the Pirates beat the Musketeers 87-83 in the semi-finals.

Following his fantastic performance the previous day, Carrington again led the way scoring 23pts and 7rebs. Carrington had a career-high 27th in scoring against Creighton and backed it up with another great performance in the semifinals.

It was Seton Hall second victory against Xavier having beaten the Pirates in a home game in February during the regular season. Meanwhile, Carrington has been a great support to another sophomore, Isaiah Whitehead, who is the Pirates top performer. They have developed into a tough back court duo for the Hall. Whitehead had 20pts, 8 assists and 6rebs.

According to an article by Jeffrey Borzello (espn.go.com) 'Carrington has developed into a consistent complement to Whitehead. He finished the regular season with 17.5 points in his final two games and hit double figures in five of his final six outings. Whitehead has been outstanding all season, but Carrington's emergence has alleviated some of the pressure from Whitehead and allowed him to be a dynamic playmaker.

Seton Hall isn't loaded with high school All-Americans or future pros, but the Pirates really defend and make life difficult for opponents. Throw in their consistent effort and they're rarely out of a game. The difference lately has been on the offensive end, and a lot of that has to do with Carrington. Whitehead and Carrington compose the type of backcourt that can win games in March, and they're only picking up more momentum and confidence.'

Despite Xavier's persistence which forced 27 turnovers, Seton Hall defense was also crucial in the victory as Derrick Gordon was making the little plays on both ends of the floor and Ismael Sanogo made life difficult for James Farr and Jalen Reynolds. Xavier pressured Seton Hall with players like Whitehead, Gordon, Delgado and others in foul trouble, but the Pirates were able to maintained their composure and controlled the tempo to seal the victory. Seton Hall led the first period 41-30. Xavier rallied back 53-46 at the half but eventually could not hold off the Pirates.

For Seaton Hall, Angelo Delgado chipped in with 15pts and 5rebs while Gordon contributed 10pts. Freshman Edmond Sumner led Xavier with a team-high 21pts, James Farr had a double double with 18pts & 10rebs and Trevon Bluiett had 15pts.

Seton Hall now has the opportunity for a historic Big East Tournament Final against the favorites, Villanova, on Saturday night.
