NBFTT Appoints its First Female President - Mar 25, 2016

The National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT) appointed Ms. Claire Mitchell - currently the Secretary General to act in the position of President after the Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Mr. Garvin Warwick at their Statutory Board Meeting on Saturday, March 12, 2016. This was the Board's first opportunity to meet since Mr. Warwick tendered his resignation on January 25, 2016. The Board also accepted the resignation of Mr. Daron Lall and appointed Mr. Arnold Thomas - currently the Assistant Secretary to act in the position of Vice President - Technical and Training Services. The Board of Directors wishes to thank all parties who continue to support basketball in Trinidad and Tobago as we restructure and improve opportunities for the sport to flourish.

Center Johnny Hamilton (7') led the University of Texas, Arlington men's basketball team to one of its finest overall performances of the season on Saturday night at the First National Bank Arena. In a convincing away 97-71 win over Arkanas State in the Sun Belt Conference, Hamilton tallied a game high 8rebs along with 19ts. LPetrotrin Petro Jazz overcame Maloney Pacers 97-65 at the BlG 6 Playoffs at the Jean Pierre Complex. Ako Pascal (F) top-scored for the winners with 24 points, while Kevin Sargeant (193-C, college: Ohio Wesleyan) netted 21. Ahkeem Boyd replied with 19 points in the losing effort. Detour Shak Attack defeated Straker Nets 74-70. Kurt Christian(G-83) nailed 18 points in a win. Richard Guiseppi answered with 18 points in the losing effort.   [read more]

On November 8 in Russia, Devaughn Akoon-Purcell had a great game in the last round for league's leader Bakken and was voted Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. Akoon-Purcell top scored with 31pts with 6rebs as the defending Danish champs Bakken surprised the league leaders Russian Avtodor 97-85 in the FIBA Europe Cup competition.
