By Dave Davis July 16, 2012 The Kings and Boys Dem were Saturdays winners in the New Breed Basketball Association summer league action at the Ronald Charles Gymnasium on the Central High School campus. The Kings withstood a fourth quarter rally to edge the Lakers, 69-67, in an exciting contest that went down to the wire, and Boys Dem had to overcome an eight point halftime deficit to beat Dread Is, 75-66.
On a quiet night from star player Craig Williams, the Kings got a big game from Devante Pryce who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the two-point victory over the Lakers. But it wasnt an easy victory.
Leading by nine points at 56-47 heading into the fourth quarter, the Kings just barely held off the Lakers closing rush, outscoring the Kings 20-13 in the period to come up just short.
Three other Kings reached double figures in points with Jermaine Mulley knocking down 13 and Nybo Rodgers and Markie Perinon finishing with 12 points apiece.
Boys Dem 75, Dread Is 66 Boys Dem have now established themselves as the team to beat in the NBBA after knocking off two of the leagues top three teams in their last two games. The Boys used a 30-17 third period to rally from an eight point halftime deficit to take a 53-48 lead at the end of three quarters.
They then went on to outscore Dread Is 22-18 in the fourth to wrap up the hard fought 75-66 victory.
Zomari Swanston led the winners with game highs in points, 20, and rebounds, 11. He was ably supported by Rasheed Swanston (196-F-95) with 13 points, Wilson Ferrance and Salim Ross (92) both with 12, and floor generalKadeem Jones (94) who finished with 10 points and six assists.
For Dread Is, Lloyd Gilbert had 16 points and nine rebounds and Timothy Sneed finished with 12 points.

Frank Elegar (208-C-86, college: Drexel) wins the title in Estonia as his Kalev/Cramo became the Estonian champion for the third year in a row. In the fourth game Kalev/Cramo posted an 81:69 win for 4-0 in the series.

It was a great shooting night for Kalev/Cramo especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage. 29 personal fouls committed by TU/Rock helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of U.S. Virgin Islands center Frank Elegar who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and Ty Abbott who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Kalev/Cramo players scored in double figures. Armands Skele added 13 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Ivan Nelyubov responded with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and Rain Veideman scored 19 points.
In search of more playing time, Southern Miss guard Deon Edwin(188-G) is expected to transfer from the men's basketball team.Edwin, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard from the Virgin Islands, averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game as a freshman for the 27-10 Golden Eagles.USM coach Donnie Tyndall said he had talked with Edwin and couldn't guarantee him more minutes on the court in 2013-14 [read more]

Deons minutes were limited this year, and with the guys we have returning with the guys we have sitting out, he just felt like it was in his best interest to go play somewhere else where he can get more minutes, Tyndall said. Cincinnati Hughes, Angel Rivera-Cuencas(170-PG) has decided to reclassify back to the class of 2014. He was originally the class of 2014 but after moving to Cincinnati from Puerto Rico he lost a year of eligibility. Rivera will be attending IMG Academy in Tampa , Florida.
