By Dave Davis August 9, 2012 Terrell Christian and Zomari Swanston (193-G/F) both scored 17 points to lead Boys Dem to a dominating 71-61 victory over the defending champion Hoyas to sweep them out of the 2012 New Breed Basketball Association playoffs, two games to none, at the Ronald Charles Gymnasium on Monday. The Hoyas, five-time defending champions, let it all out on the court but in the end, the deep, talented Boys Dem squad proved too much to overcome.
Christians 10 first-half points helped lead Boys Dem to a seven-point advantage at the half, 30-23.
That lead would double to 14 points at the end of the third quarter at 58-44, as eight points apiece by Zomari Swanston and Kadeem Jones (94) enabled Boys Dem to take the quarter, 28-21. Six of Jones points came on back-to-back three-pointers that gave his team some breathing room when the Hoyas looked poised to make a run.
The Hoyas, maybe fatigued from playing with a two-man bench, did not mount much of a threat to the youthful Boys Dem in the fourth quarter, even though they fought valiantly to the end. Boys Dem went on cruise control, allowing the Hoyas to win the fourth quarter 17-13, but it was not nearly enough to keep their 2012 season alive and they were sent packing, 71-61.
Christian also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots to go along with his 17 points. Rasheed Swanston (196-F-95) netted 10 points and grabbed nine boards, and Jones had 12 points and six dimes for the winners.
For the Hoyas it was the John brothers leading a valiant effort that just fell short. Kurt John finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Karl John netted 16 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. The Hoyas also got 13 points and eight assists from Eddie Castillo in the loss.
Boys Dem stormed into the final with the sweep of the Hoyas and now await the winner of the other semifinal series between Guidance and the No. 1 seeded Kings.

But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded TU/Rock 39-26 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Kalev/Cramo especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage. 29 personal fouls committed by TU/Rock helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of U.S. Virgin Islands center Frank Elegar who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and Ty Abbott who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Kalev/Cramo players scored in double figures. Armands Skele added 13 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side Ivan Nelyubov responded with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and Rain Veideman scored 19 points.

Deons minutes were limited this year, and with the guys we have returning with the guys we have sitting out, he just felt like it was in his best interest to go play somewhere else where he can get more minutes, Tyndall said. Hes a great kid, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.
