John Collins
John Collins (208-F-97) received his first ever ACC Player of the Week award today from the Atlantic Coast Conference website. Collins, a sophomore out of West Palm Beach, Florida, averaged 24 points per game and 8 rebounds per game in back-to-back victories over Miami and N.C. State.

Collins began his week with a career-high 27 point effort against Miami, a game that the Demon Deacons won 96-79. He also chipped in seven rebounds to show he's not a one trick pony.

He then helped lead Wake Forest to its first conference road win in three years with the 93-88 win over the Wolfpack in Raleigh. The 21 points and 9 rebounds came at the expense of a young, big, and foul-prone N.C. State front court.

Not only did Collins score 24 points over the two games, but he also shot an astounding 77% from the field (17-22), and also 93% from the foul line (14-15).

It appears that the ACC and rest of the country is realizing what most Wake Forest fans already knew--Collins is a sensational sophomore and we are very lucky to have him as our big guy in the middle.

Congratulations John, on what is hopefully one of many ACC awards throughout your Wake Forest collegiate career.

Fredricks cites relationship with UNT hoops staff as reason for commitment - 26 minutes ago
Rashawn Fredericks (198-G-97) has thoroughly enjoyed his time playing for the U.S. Virgin Islands national team and Jareem Dowling. That relationship paid dividends for North Texas this week, when Fredericks announced that he will continue his career with the Mean Green. New UNT head coach Grant McCasland brought Dowling with him from Arkansas State, where both coached last season. Dowling is from the Virgin Islands and is a coach with their national team program in the offseason. Frederi...   [read more]

Collins selected by the Hawks - 2 days ago
Atlanta is probably the most populated city where Virgin Islanders call home in the United States. Make room for one more as John Collins (208-F-97) was selected by the Atlanta Hawks at the 2017 NBA Draft. Collins played an instrumental role in bringing Wake Forest out of the basement of the ACC and leading them back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. He will now have an opportunity to bump heads with rap sensation Rock City and Benny Demus. Collins was selected 19th ov...   [read more]
It's been 20 years since Spurs drafted Duncan - 4 days ago
SAN ANTONIO - Time flies when you're having fun and that can't be more true for Tim Duncan who was drafted by the Spurs 20 years ago. The San Antonio Spurs posted a tribute video on Facebook of Duncan by throwing it back to Draft Day 1997 where he was the first overall pick. Duncan played for four years at Wake Forest University where he averaged 16.5 points per game. In 1997, Duncan was voted Naismith College Player of the year. During his rookie year, Duncan didn't slow down by avera...   [read more]
