Virgin Islanders are hoping to help their teams to the district finals but have to do some work on Wednesday evening.

Eddani Brathwaite and Pine Charter (18-7) advanced to the finals of the District 13-9A on Monday after roughing up Everglades, 74-63. PC and top seed Miramar will battle on Wednesday in the finale at Miramar.

The Oviedo HS trio of Earl Baker Jr., Miguel Lopez and Joshua Charlery can push coach Ed Kershner (897-382 in 45 years), already the state all-time
career wins leader, to the 900 plateau with three postseason victories. Oviedo is the top seed in 9A-2 and will play the winner of Tuesday's Lyman-Winter Springs game with a chance to play in the Championship game on Friday at Lake Mary.

Shaquan Jules and Windermere Prep posses the potential to chase down another title, this time in 5A. They first have to navigate a region that includes district rival Master's Academy. Jones vs. Trinity Prep are set to tangle on Tuesday evening with winner having to play a rested Windermere Prep on Wednesday at Lake Highland Prep. The Class 5A-District 6 Championship game is set for Friday at 7pm.
'We had a stretch where we were kind of sleep-walking a little bit, getting by just off our talent against teams that weren't as good as us,' Lakers coach Ben Wilson said. 'We needed some wake-up calls. We're going to have to make sure we're focused every time out because now it's the time of year where it's win or go home.'

Shawn Evans and Dr. Phillips will face Cypress Creek in the semifinals of the Class 9A-District 5 6pm on Wednesday. Olympia-Oak Ridge will vie for the other spot in the finals. The Championship game is set for Friday 7pm at Oak Ridge.

Treasure Coast
Shaquoy and J-Quan Ferrol have their hands full District 13-7A but the district games are all at home. Okeechobee, which went just 3-3 in district play, is a team to watch. The Brahmans were 20-5 overall and the fourth seed. The Brahams host fifth seed South Fork on Wednesday. The number one seeded Heritage awaits the winner Friday night in the semifinals.

STONEWALL JACKSON 77, BATTLEFIELD 71: Antonio Warner scored a career-high 38 points Tuesday as the host Raiders finished their Conference 8 regular-season with a 5-3 mark. Warner was 13 of 26 from the field, including going 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Warner also had 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Battlefield (5-2, 12-9) led 36-31 at halftime. The Raiders (10- 10) outscored the Bobcats in each of the final two quarters, including 24-17 in the fourth. As a team, Stonewall Jackson recorded nine 3-pointers.

Kalik Liburd lit up visiting Sturgis West for 36 points that included four 3-pointers as Nantucket rolled to a 79-60 Cape & Islands League boys basketball win on Tuesday.
Liburd scored 26 of the Whalers 46 first-half points, including all four of his treys. Both teams are back in action Thursday. Nantucket hosts Cape cod Academy, while Sturgis West hosts Sturgis East.

J'wan Roberts had 19 as the 19th-ranked Shoemaker Grey Wolves earned a 65-54 win over Harker Heights on Tuesday in Harker Heights. Shoemaker trailed 22-16 at halftime, but exploded in the second half 49-32 in the second half for the 11-point victory. It was the 100th career win for Grey Wolves head coach Emund Prichett.
'It feels like another district win,' Prichett said. 'It was a hard-fought game, and it makes me reflect on all of the players I've had through the years.'
The Wolves maintained their one-game lead over Ellison in the District 8-6A standings with two games remaining. Shoemaker is scheduled to face San Angelo Central on the road Friday at 7 p.m.

Fredricks cites relationship with UNT hoops staff as reason for commitment - 28 minutes ago
Rashawn Fredericks (198-G-97) has thoroughly enjoyed his time playing for the U.S. Virgin Islands national team and Jareem Dowling. That relationship paid dividends for North Texas this week, when Fredericks announced that he will continue his career with the Mean Green. New UNT head coach Grant McCasland brought Dowling with him from Arkansas State, where both coached last season. Dowling is from the Virgin Islands and is a coach with their national team program in the offseason. Frederi...   [read more]

John Collins
Collins selected by the Hawks - 2 days ago
Atlanta is probably the most populated city where Virgin Islanders call home in the United States. Make room for one more as John Collins (208-F-97) was selected by the Atlanta Hawks at the 2017 NBA Draft. Collins played an instrumental role in bringing Wake Forest out of the basement of the ACC and leading them back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. He will now have an opportunity to bump heads with rap sensation Rock City and Benny Demus. Collins was selected 19th ov...   [read more]
It's been 20 years since Spurs drafted Duncan - 4 days ago
SAN ANTONIO - Time flies when you're having fun and that can't be more true for Tim Duncan who was drafted by the Spurs 20 years ago. The San Antonio Spurs posted a tribute video on Facebook of Duncan by throwing it back to Draft Day 1997 where he was the first overall pick. Duncan played for four years at Wake Forest University where he averaged 16.5 points per game. In 1997, Duncan was voted Naismith College Player of the year. During his rookie year, Duncan didn't slow down by avera...   [read more]
