Javier
Martinez
Javier Martinez (201-F-93) was selected to the All-OVC second team by head coaches and sports information director. Martinez quite simply developed into one of the most complete frontcourt players in the OVC during his senior campaign. The forward from St. Croix, Virgin Islands ranks fifth in the country with a .677 field goal percentage while also compiling 8.6 rebounds per game - the third-highest total in the league. He was even better against OVC opponents, as he averaged a double-double of 14.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. In conference play, his rebounding total led the league while also ranking atop the OVC in field goal percentage (.727, 101-for-139) and free throw percentage (.917, 33-of-36).
Ten of Martinez's 12 double-doubles occurred in OVC play, which ranked as the most in the league. The 6-7, 210-pound phenom became the first player in UT Martin's Division-I era (since 1992) to record a 20/20 game, hauling in 22 points and a career-best 21 rebounds at Tennessee Tech on Feb. 1. He also accumulated a career-high 27 points (on 12-of-16 shooting) in only 26 minutes in a home win against Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 17 and was named the adidas OVC Player of the Week on Feb. 6.
Martinez helped the Skyhawks claim their second straight OVC West division championship and achieve a 20-win season for the third season in a row, a feat that had never been done at UT Martin. The Skyhawks earned the No. 2 seed in this week's OVC Basketball Championships and will play their first game in the tournament semifinals on Friday, March 3 at 9 p.m (ESPNU).

John Collins
For Wake Forest's John Collins, testing the pro waters just makes good sense - 1 day ago
The 23.9 points and 9.5 rebounds he averaged as a junior for Kansas in 1986-87 weren't enough to convince Danny Manning he was ready for the NBA. He knew all along he would return to play his senior season for coach Larry Brown, and his father, Ed Manning, an assistant with the Jayhawks. So when the NBA draft was conducted in June of 1987, the San Antonio Spurs were left to cash their first pick in on a center from Navy named David Robinson. 'At the end of the day I wasn't ready, physic...   [read more]
