Seton Hall had a chance for a second straight marquee victory on Sunday, and Desi Rodriguez (198-F-96) made sure the Pirates didn't miss it.

Rodriguez hit a running layup with eight seconds left to give Seton Hall a 79-77 victory over No. 17 Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center, marking the Pirates' second straight win over a ranked opponent and providing a major early boost to their NCAA Tournament resume.

The victory comes days after the Pirates took out No. 22 Texas Tech, 89-79, at Madison Square Garden.

Rodriguez led all scorers with 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting while also grabbing eight rebounds, four steals and two assists. He had 19 points in the first half to help the Pirates get off to a hot start -- bucking a troubling trend for Seton Hall this season -- and leading by as much as eight points in the first half.

While Seton Hall was in control for the first half and early in the second, Deng Adel (20 points) and V.J. King (14 points) helped the Cardinals get back in the game and lead by as much as seven around the midway point of the second half.

Khadeen Carrington had 18 points, four assists and four rebounds, while Angel Delgado had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Myles Powell had 13 points, including a crucial 3-pointer late that put the Pirates up, 77-73, before Louisville scored four straight points to level the score at 77, setting up Rodriguez's heroics.

The victory will likely propel the Pirates back into the AP Top 25, which they fell out of following a loss at the buzzer to Rhode Island on Thanksgiving. Seton Hall's rigorous out-of-conference schedule continues on Saturday when they face VCU at Prudential Center.
